What happened to the birth control law? What was Obama's decision? Do you agree?

Asked by punkrockworld (960points) February 19th, 2012

I don’t get what the big deal is. Why are people getting offended over this?

Some people don’t want to pay for other people to get anything. It isn’t even really about the contraception; it’s about the money, and telling insurance companies what they must do with it. Sure, some put a facade of religion/morality over it, but in the end, it’s all about government controlling business.

Actually, it’s all about “religious” men wanting to control women’s bodies. It’s not about the money. Nobody complained except some priests and bishops.

@zenvelo Maybe they started the ball rolling, but a lot of the complaints I’ve heard are based more on government interference in commerce than on the sanctity of life. Then again, many protests eventually get sidetracked.

@jerv I didn’t hear any of that until the “compromise.” But that was short once insurance companies realized that birth control is a lot cheaper than nine months of maternity coverage.

To put it in proper prespective, what do you think Rick Santorum, Mit Romney and those they are courting on the extreme right would say about a Muslim organization buying a university or hospital and requiring, as an article of their faith, that even though their business serves the public, all women working there have to wear burkas?

This was just a tempest in a teapot designed to appeal to the right wing’s current War on Women voters. My question is how they walk all this back when it comes general election time. Santorum, of course, will deny he ever said that he’d support states outlawing contraception. Seems he dwells so far back in time he is unaware they have invented video recording technology.
