What is the rectangle on Facebook?

I know it is probably a stupid question but still, I don’t want to die without knowing. On Facebook, on the right there is a list of my friends. If they are online, a green dot appears next to them. But next to some of them there is just this rounded grey rectangle. What is that?

It is a small representation of a smartphone. It means that their account has also been linked to their smartphone as well as their home computer.

EDIT: I just checked, and when I click on a name to chat, in the chat box that pops up it says “Your messages will be sent to __’s phone”.
