If a user who is still using one of the Fluther default avatars gets over 10,000 points, should that avatar be retired?

Asked by Dutchess_III (46811points) March 11th, 2012

We have a few long-timer Jellys (9000+ points) who are using one of the “brilliant” default Fluther avatars. I get used to seeing them, and their thoughtful posts over the course of a year or two, and then some short term goofball jumps in with some goofball post, only they’re using the same default avatar and it messes me up!

Should we retire those avatars?

Before we retire any, we need to add more. The more we retire, the more common those remaining avatars will be. But one thing is that we should not force other people who are already using that particular default to give it up.

Also, can you PM me the names of those who are using the default avatars? (I can’t think of any)

There are only two that I can think of. It shouldn’t be that difficult to come up with 2 new default avatars.

I can’t tell you who they are off the top of my head, but I’ll let you know.

Definitely do NOT make them give up their avatar! It’s theirs! They’ve earned the right to keep it.

I think we should retire the possessed cat one for sure! I’m wondering where it came from and what it has in common with the others…

Which possessed cat? The cute little black kitten? I know…don’t know how he ended up with the fishes, but thar he is! Who does he belong to?

Ela's avatar

Yea, him. He looks possessed to me. lol

Edited in Found him!

No, we should urge the long-time users to pick a new, unique one.

No! I figure after 10,000 points they’ve earned their avatar. It would be easy (I think) to get a couple of new ones.

Or… you could start your own damn website and come up with whatever rules you want.
The cat is Bacio, and he is Andrew’s.

No-o-o-o! It’s like changing your name and that should be voluntary, not required.

People who have been here a long time and can’t find their own avatar should lose half their lurve when they hit 10K. Then we won’t have to think about retiring avatars.

Haha! I’ve had that reaction several times to the default avatars – well, one in particular. :)

@Sunny2 What? I think you misread my question!

cwilbur's avatar

If I had to choose between losing 6540 lurve and replacing my avatar, I’d lose the lurve.

And there is one ^^^^^^ that should be retired from public use, and given to @cwilbur.
..Maybe I didn’t explain myself well enough. I don’t mean get RID of the avatar. I mean take it off the default list and replace it with something else, and let the long time user have it for EVER.
