How enjoyable do you find clowns?

Asked by deni (23141points) March 17th, 2012

Thats pretty much it. I dislike every aspect of them. Their humor, the way they look, the makeup, it’s all stupid to me, and more scary than anything else.

I feel like most people are in the boat with me….does anyone get any type of enjoyment out of clowns, really?!?

On a scale of 1–10, about -2. Modern Family’s latest episode was of the “hey, remember how Cam used to be a clown?” variety; I stopped watching within 2 minutes, even though I’m a regular viewer.

Clowns are less funny than the holocaust.

@Aethelflaed I just watched it that’s what inspired me to ask haha. It’s off-putting! It’s so bad!

As enjoyable as…nothing.

@deni I find clowns in generally to be creepy and offputting, but there’s something special about old-timey clowns (the auguste, hobo, tramp, bum stuff) that really puts it over the edge for me. Though, obviously not as much as ICP.

I can’t remember when I found a clown funny. I don’t like them.

They can be quite enjoyable if performing at a safe distance. Close up they are very disturbing.

I love clowns. The one in “It” was cool.

I’m not afraid of them or anything, but I think they’re just stupid rather than funny.

Not enjoyable since comedia dell’arte. Why have we collectively kicked mimes to the curb, but not clowns?

Keep_on_running's avatar

They’re only enjoyable when they give me some free balloons and lollies.

I have always fucking hated clowns. Not just a little bit, either. I swear, customers/friends always invited me to the circus as a kid…nevermind the fact that I have always found animal cruelty dispicable…but the clowns…Even as a small child, I had a desire to make clowns hurt. :/

To me, clowns are synonymous with horror, since a lot of horror movies use the clown idea and twist it up to be ridiculous scary. I think that’s awesome. Pennywise the Dancing Clown comes to mind first, but there are plenty of other killer clowns, whether they’re actually clowns or not, and many killers wear clown masks.

Normal clowns, I’m indifferent. Horror clowns are cool though. Or maybe I have some inward, unresolved clown hate. I had a stuffed clown as a kid, with a plastic head, like those Cabbage Patch babies. I took it by the legs and smashed the head on my toy chest. It split in half and all this white stuffing was inside. Why the hell do they put stuffing in a plastic head? O_o

My mom got all pissed.
Also, Killer Clowns from Outer Space 2, fuckin get to it. It’s not like one could possibly ruin the first movie with a sequel…

They make me want to eat my own head.
Mimes on the other hand, make me want to kill…...them.

I haven’t found clowns funny since I was about four. I don’t find them scary or creepy, just stupid.

There is something about clowns that I dislike, but I am not sure exactly what it is!
They seem to be sad, pathetic, trying so hard to be funny, and scary.
It’s as if they could turn into something very nasty very quickly.
I wouldn’t go out of my way to see them.
