Why so glum?

This question about the times we live in garnered a lot of cynical and negative answers, including from me.

Why are we so gloomy or jaded about the present times?

We live in an era of ever expanding scientific knowledge about our bodies, our planet, our solar system, our galaxy, and the universe. Advancements in science enrich our lives every day.

There are people working diligently to bring about greater access to healthy living standards, more transparent governing institutions, and the advancement for the rights of many different minority groups all over the world.

Aren’t good things happening, too?
