Where to get a replacement USB cord for my iPod Touch?

Asked by AshlynM (10684points) April 10th, 2012

I want a genuine Apple replacement, not a knockoff. I’ve checked Amazon and it looks like nothing but knockoffs. My current usb cord still works fine, I just want a backup in case it breaks.

Does Best Buy sell just USB cords for iDevices? That’s where I got my device.

Best Buy, Radio Shack, all the electronic stores sell them. The knockoffs are just as good, though.

Yes, Best Buy carries “genuine” Apple USB cables for the Touch. Same cord used by the iPhone and iPad as far as I know. 30 bucks. But I got a really nice purple one, a “knock-off” at Radio Shack for half that and I like it better, ‘cause it’s purple. But, yes, if you want genuine Apple you can get them at Best Buy, an Apple store, if there’s one near you and maybe at Walmart too, I think.

Oooooo. I want a purple one!

@Rarebear LOL. Radio Shack. Go for it. Everyone has a white Apple USB charger cable, anyone can have one really, but I’ve got a purple one!! :-)

If you’re real nice to the people at the AT&T store they might give you one for free. They get them with returns.

Try ebay. I have a half dozen of them lying around from assorted ipods and iphone. I bet I am not the only one. I will sell a couple of my extras on ebay one of these days.

I don’t think genuine apple is necessary in this case really.

Griffith chargers seem to charge faster.

Everything mine gets screwed up, I just call Apple and they replace it for free. I’m on my third one. They’re not well made in spite of being straight from Apple. They always end up fraying And twisting at the point where the wire meets the connector.

If this third one gives out after the warranty period, I wont hesitate to get one of the knockoffs for cheap. They’re all made in China anyway.

Craigslist. I remember selling my default ear buds and sync cable on there to someone who had lost theirs. He was very happy to have an unused cable and ear buds.

Did you try the Apple Store? I’ve gotten replacements from there in the past. I also know that if you buy an outlet adapter from the Apple Store, it comes with a new USB cord as well. I have found the adapter to be extremely useful and would recommend getting that, as I believe it is about the same price as just buying the cord.

Of course the Apple Store would be down right now so I can’t link you directly to any of these products, but I would imagine that they are fairly simple to find.

Thanks everyone. My concern with knockoffs is that they may drain the battery faster, not work at all, or screw something up. If I get Apple, then I know it’s going to work. So that’s my reason for wanting an actual Apple replacement. Thanks again.

Knock-off USB cables are pretty low risk, as long as they are the right type, have the right connectors.
Knock-off chargers are another story…quality of chargers is all over the map, go with a name brand at least.
