Should I be concerned about a wireless router for new iPad?

Asked by marionana (103points) May 2nd, 2012

Husband won a iPad 3 in office raffle. Had to purchase a wireless router to get it up and running. Are Wireless signals dangerous to your health?

Considering that there is no radiation, no.

I live in a backyard and the nearest house is about 50 feet away. The next nearest house is about 100 feet away. Here is a list of wifi networks I can see.

My point is that even if it is bad for you it is all around you. I would be more concerned about your cellphone.

@johnpowell , you WOULD have the FBI watching you. ~

@Judi :: We used to keep our wifi open. Nobody gave a shit if people used it. But then kids from the apartment building across the street started hanging out in our yard to get wifi. Once it got up to about ten kids hanging out in our yard leaving cans and cigarette butts we closed off the wifi.

But it was fun to grab their cookies and post photos of them using our wifi on their Facebook page. Seriously, it is pretty easy to get the login credentials of people on open networks. And this is why I use a VPN.

I suspect that if you somehow amped up the signal to 100 times its normal power (illegal anyway), and sat one inch away from it for a couple years straight (unlikely) your body might be subject to some radio waves.

But under normal circumstances, wireless technology is entirely safe. What you do in the internet might not be.

@johnpowell, we have some drug dealers across the street from us. Maybe we will change ours to DEA Surveillance just to mess with them. :-)

@johnpowell – at least they were not so rude as to change your admin password so that you could not lock them out. That is what my neighbor did! Then he hacked my WEP password (not that hard). Now I use a full length WPA2 password. So far so good.
