Do you gang up on new people when a silly question hits a nerve?

Are you a returning troll user, or a new one?

Since I’m only one person, my ganging up is very limited.

Not just new people. I gang up on old people too.

No. I flag the question and move on.

Think I have seen this movie before.

No, but it’s only too obvious when someone is, well, lets just say, not gonna make the team.

I think that a silly question generally gets some silly answers and then there are people who take them seriously and think you are a troll. The problem with new people is they don’t have a track record, and so people tend to think the worst.

I don’t know whether you meant it to be silly or not, but it seemed silly to me, so I answered it in that spirit. I often answer questions I think are silly in a silly way because it’s fun to do so. Some people take offense. Others don’t mind.

Some people here are offended by silly questions. I think that’s sad. But not everyone wants the same thing.

In my opinion, you shouldn’t worry about what people think. As long as you are honest in doing what you do, and you can convince the troll-erators that you are honest, you’ll be fine. But you may have to get a tough skin for a while until people come to understand that you are harmless.

It is possible to be different here. It is possible to be different and to even get lurve. But you have to be able to explain yourself. People here are quick to point the troll-finger. Stand up to it. Point out to them how they are discouraging new ideas and different ideas. Some may care. Others just want things to always be the same.

It has been entirely too boring around here for a while. I hope you stay. Weather the storm. Have a good humor about it. These people are nice once they get past their initial fear of newness.

Depends on how stupid the question is. I try to leave them alone but sometime I can’t help but take a swipe. Some just beg for a dick punch.

I think it can be fun to gang up on newbies or oldies alike. :P
I think it can be done in a way that isn’t too damaging..

And I like to defend the underdog. No. It’s not really the underdog. Maybe the maligned? Woefully misunderstood? I do so enjoy getting dick punched ;-)

I have found that if I am kind to most of the people everyone else likes to dick-punch, that they tell me things that indicate there is more to the story. I don’t think they are pulling the wool over my eyes. I just wish people would hold back the “troll” card a little longer and be more tolerant of people who don’t write so well. You can tell when they aren’t native English speakers. You can also tell when they have non-American points of view. I do think Americans are a bit bullyish, in general, around the world, and I see it here, too, in how we often treat the young foreigners who are pretty insecure and overcompensate for it.

To paraphrase Groucho Marx on the topic,

A lovely person apparently had some difficulties posting a few questions, because English is not her first language. She was jumped on and beaten down by a few really rude people because of those difficulties. She continued to be beaten down because she did not yet understand “rules” about posting links and citing sources and such.

Yet the writing style still looks so familiar, as did the first modded question.

She was here with the first wave, long time ago,@SpatzieLover, although that probably doesn’t account for it. It’s Silly Girl. She is just awesome. And gone, I guess. :(

I don’t think she’s gone. I asked her to please stay and she agreed… perhaps she’ll log in tomorrow.

Just want to point out that I was the first person to defend her on this thread, and I didn’t know who she was. It is possible to recognize good qualities in a person just based on a question if one does not have that “troll” mindset. I would encourage us to give everyone the benefit of the doubt, and to learn to recognize when people have trouble with English. It really is pretty obvious.
