What could red, flat marks, and not itchy marks mean?

Asked by chelle21689 (7907points) May 9th, 2012

I don’t know what it is. I’ve had it for a year but I didn’t do anything about it because it didn’t bother me at all. it’s kind of small. I’m freaking out right now because I noticed that it’s starting to spread. It is located on the side of my waist near my chest.

I’m starting to get worried because I looked up my symptoms. I can’t find an image to it but all I see is people getting surgeries or dying from cancer from these spots! =( I’m really worried.

Anyways, I’m trying to find a good dermatologist because my current one is booked for one month…ridiculous.

They sound like stretchmarks, your skin is getting old like mine. See a doctor to confirm.

They look nothing like stretch marks. I am making an appointment with a doctor but right now I can’t stop thinking about it.

I have to agree with @Tropical_Willie, they do look like stretch marks.

@chelle21689 Do a google image search on “stretch marks” (and this search is not for the fain of heart) I don’t think you will be able to say “they look nothing like stretch marks.” Stretch marks manifest in different ways, in different parts of the body on different people. I’m not saying that’s what they are, just that they really do kind of look like stretch marks.

But you should definitely see your doctor about it. If it is something serious then you will have done the right thing and had them looked at. If they marks aren’t serious, then you can stop freaking out.

Neither self-diagnosis nor diagnosis-by-Fluther is adequate or recommended by either doctors or Flutherers.

Well it’s helping ease my mind a bit lol. I am seeing a doctor tomorrow. I’ve never seen stretch marks look like this, I’m not even growing right there lol. Weird! =(

They don’t look at all like stretch marks to me @chelle21689.

Is there any type of clothing that could be rubbing your side?
The long marks look like broken blood vessels to me.
Are those “dot-like” marks raised a bit? Or are they the same height as your skin?

Red dots can be molluscum, but the other red markings near the dots don’t look like it. I don’t think its stretch marks. I was zero help. Let us know what the doctor says. I don’t think it is cancer, don’t stress. It doesn’t look like melanoma, which is the scary skin cancer. Just get it checked out.

Went today, doctors didn’t know what it was =( they had to shave a piece off and stitch me up. I get results in two weeks!! He scared the heck out of me when I heard the word herpes. he said all these fancy words and I didn’t understand he just meant MAYBE adult chicken pox.

Anyways, yeah I hated that there were like 4 people in there! They were interns. I told them to get out haha.

@chelle21689 I thought you said it has been there for a long time and recently got worse. How can that be varicella or another herpetic outbreak? Does it come and go?

chelle21689's avatar

No…it’s been there for over a year. You’re correct. It just stayed there and just recently had two more dots appear towards my back… I wait for the results in two weeks and it’s driving me crazy thinking that it’s not curable. If it is dangerous or if it is something that can be contagious.

@chelle21689 I’m sorry. I was really wrong about this one. But I did say that you should definitely see your doctor about it and did have a disclaimer:

Neither self-diagnosis nor diagnosis-by-Fluther is adequate or recommended by either doctors or Flutherers.

:-)

I am so glad you went to the doctor!! Hopefully, it will all be o.k.

@chelle21689 Did it have blisters? Varicella, shingles, gets very messy looking. The areas I get shingles do stay red past the outbreak time, but during the outbreak is is extremely uncomfortable, extremely itchy for me, some complain of bad pain, and the rash looks really bad. Your rash didn’t look like shingles to me, and shingles rarely spreads the way you described as far as I know. But, I am no expert. I really really don’t think it is anything serious, but I do think its good you are getting it diagnosed.

Keep you guys posted lol. Maybe someone with this issue can find this post helpful one day

chelle21689's avatar

Found out it today. It is Pigmented Purpura. I guess I have some broken blood vessels and it leaked to my skin. They said it’s not a health concern. Gave me some prescription, hopefully it goes away but it isn’t guaranteed.

Hope it turns out well for you @chelle21689. Thanks for the update :)

Tropical_Willie's avatar

Glad it wasn’t anything severe.

chelle21689's avatar

Yeah me too. I’m thankful it’s not anything severe…I hope it doesn’t spread. It goes away on it’s own sometimes they say… it’s really random so I’m not sure what to expect. Just really hoping it doesn’t spread!!!
