Is there a work-around for the now flaky Facebook integration?

Asked by ETpro (34605points) May 14th, 2012

When they first rolled out the checkboxes that let you share a question on Facebook or Twitter, at least the Facebook one seemed to work every time. I don’t have a Twitter acount, so I can’t speak to that.

For the past several months, the Facebook share feature seems to work only about 25% of the time. When it fails, it displays a link that opens a new tab on Facebook. But from there, I don’t see any good way to share the question. Does anyone have a workaround that ports the question to Facebook (or Twitter if that’s a problem too)?

I’ve noticed it too, usually I uncheck it but sometimes I miss and it doesnt do it.

I just did it for the award lol.

I occasionally have that issue, too. I’m not sure what the problem is. If I really still want to post the Q to FB, I just copy the URL address of the Q and pop it into the status update bar on FB.

@augustlan Aha. That’s what I was looking for. If you pop it into your wall, it shoes up as a raw URL as the title for the post, which doesn’t look very professional. On questions that my Facebook friends might find interesting, I like to share them there because it might win Fluther some additional users, and it makes for a high ranked inbound link which still has some value ina post Panda/Penguin world.

@ETpro This is actually the same way I post the QOTD on Fluther’s Facebook page. I just type something in the status bar before I post the link. You can see what it looks like here. If I did it on my own page, I might say something like, “What do you think about this?” and then post the link.

@augustlan That’s far nicer than what I was getting with posts to the wall, but still a bit stodgy looking compared to how it looks when the Social Media integration reluctantly decides to work.

Mind you, the problem may be over on the facebook side. It’s their database that must respond before the share widget times out.

Do you have Timeline yet? I’ve got it on both my personal page and the Fluther page. Maybe that’s the difference?
