Is your summer routine different from your routine during the rest of the year?

Asked by mangeons (12288points) June 7th, 2012

Today is my last day of school before summer vacation starts. Summer for me means staying up late, sleeping until whenever I want, and just doing what I want when I want to, like going swimming or just bumming around all day. It means cookouts and going to the beach and enjoying more time outside. Is your summer routine any different from your routine the rest of the year, or is it all the same to you? If it’s different, how and why is it different?

I work year-round so my summer routine is not a whole lot different from the rest of the year. I do enjoy the sun going down later in the evening, and not waking up to darkness. I also enjoy not wearing coats and socks and stuff like that.

After a few weeks, I start to actually kind of hate my summer routine. Haha. I feel useless and sloppy after waking up late and wasting the day away. I need a little more structure to my life.

Yes, the damned sun wakes me up around 6:00 am, which means that I have an extra hour to kill before I leave for work. That gives me more time on Fluther.

Yep. I go barefoot in the summer a whole lot more frequently than I do during the winter. In addition, I run the ceiling fan in my bedroom, take the heavy comforter off the bed, and I use other fans more often for air circulation, too… along with open windows when the weather isn’t too hot.

It means more car trips, more picnics, more swimming. More time outdoors.

Nope, same old routine for me. I walk to the train to get to work at 5:30 a.m., so it’s nice having light out, but that’s it.

Yes, it’s very, very different. My sleep rhythm is moved until hours later. Say for example in the every day life I go to bed around 11 pm and wake up at 6 am. In the summer I’ll probably go to bed at 3 am or maybe even later and then try to get up before noon, but that usually fails. Ah, I love the night. I also tend to waste a lot of time doing absolutely nothing. But what is wasting time really? Do we have to do all sorts of things all the time to not waste time? I think it’s good to just go with the flow and relax. Though I am actually a bit restless right now.
Well. It’s all about finding the fine balance between not being busy at all and still feeling like you spend your time on something.

I also work all year, so I have my routine. I do not tolerate the sun or heat well, so if it’s over 85°F – especially if it’s humid – I’ll be inside.

Here in england town, summer barely lasts a week, no real change there then.

I get up earlier and spend more time outside, I do a lot more hiking and biking, I take time off work to go on little vacations here and there or to a festival (Telluride Bluegrass in 2 weeks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!) I stay out a lot later and generally just bask in the glory that is beautiful weather. Overall I’m much happier in the summer.

I get up much later, because during the school year I get up at 5:30. Then, I go to bed whenever I want, like 2:30 a.m. if I want to. And, I do my laundry whenever I want to.

I have summer assignments, but I just choose not to do them until July, and sometimes I even go out for a jog when I want to.

I also have a lot of conditioning camps for volleyball, and lacrosse over summer. And I swim for more training.

And, I hang out with my friends whenever I want to.

In summer, there are no piano lessons, so I don’t have to help my son practice every night. We get to do more outdoor stuff. There are vacations to go on. It is a lovely thing. There is the pool, and relaxation that doesn’t seem to happen in the rest of the year.

Living in Alaska makes my summer routine veeeeery different, and I’m sure everyone else living here would agree. It’s the little things, like plugging in the car in the other months of the year, or letting it warm up before putting it in reverse gear, dressing for 40 below.

God, why do I live here

Yes, I work much more mandatory overtime in the summer, so I have little time to even enjoy the it. I’m also not a great fan of warmer weather, or even wearing summer type clothes. I tend to be the most active during the fall and winter months.

No, I still sleep in late, and follow the same routines. The main difference is that I keep the doors and windows open more, or keep the air conditioner on.

Yes. In the summer, trips to the grocery store are only at night because of the extreme heat. Also, I carry my dog outside to go potty rather than let him walk out because his footpads would get burnt. Mostly, it’s doing things at night in order to avoid the heat and primetime energy billings.

I really dislike Summer

In summer all the hoodies, hats and gloves are removed from the cab of my work truck, and replaced with a towel or two and sunscreen. My dog is hot natured so we don’t go out on our long walks in the summer like any other time of the year. She will frolic in a stream with floating ice chunks but when the temp gets into the 80’s she wants to flop out on the futon in front of the window a/c. Hawt Dawggy!!
