Try typing the name of your state, plus college counselor – or admissions counselor.

You might also ask your current school counselor.

@HeartsLove7: Does not your high school provide counseling and guidance for life after high school? Any accredited secondary school should have these services in place.

A legitimate college guidance counsellor will not be doing business for free. It is a profession like the others.

“In the USA, a school counselor is a certified educator with a master’s degree in school counseling (usually from a Counselor Education graduate program) with school counseling graduate training including qualifications and skills to address all students’ academic, career, college access and personal/social needs.” Source

What @YARNLADY said. Also take a look at this. I should add a cautionary note. Make sure any site you find online is legitimate and not something set up by scam artists to grab personal identification of the people who find it. “Trust, but verify.”

@gailcalled They prefer to keep counseling to scheduling for next year, this year scheduling, and home/school-life situations. They don’t do much post-high school counseling or help. Well at least not my counselor.

@HeartsLove7 I’m finding a bunch of counseling sevices but all of them charge. Maybe try the schools that interest you directly?

What do you need the counseling for, precisely?

@HeartsLove7: Put this question directly to your counselor. “How can you help me through the college process? What should i be doing this summer, for example? Are there going to be general counseling and advising sessions for the entire junior class about PSAT’s, AP courses, college visiting, resources, etc.”

Your counselors’ offices should have dozens of new catalogs from most of the name and known colleges and unis. There should also be college admissions staff visiting your school or at least available for a one-day blitz.

What’s with your high school?

Invest in the two best books on the subject for students, as I have mentioned before. And visit a few local colleges this summer.
