What do you think of this female name?

Asked by minnie19 (435points) June 19th, 2012 from iPhone

“Melody Era”. Is it an easy, cool name for a wavy long-haired green eyed slim brunette?

I like it a lot. It just rolls off the tongue. Plus it has short variations.

I like Melody, but Era is too close to error and this person stand the chance of being teased mercilessly.

Gorgeous name!

It reminds me of the name of a country, an exotic travel destination.
Melod’era.

Come to Melod’era, where the trade winds caress and the tropical nights seduce.

Why not switch it up and make it even more unusal…Eramel or Odyera?

Hahaha Coloma!! I didn’t want Mary Elizabeth, ya know…

It sounds like a pretty name. But the last name “Era” is somewhat improbable as a family name, if realism is what you are going for. Is this a novel or a video game character?

Melody is too James Bond and Era is just silly.

Perhaps surprise the reader by naming the slim, green-eyed wavy-haired brunette against type and use Mary Elizabeth, which I prefer over Melody Era.

If this is a fictional character, give her a back story and name her after her grandfather or other interesting relative.

Or think of the mistake made when the progenitor registered at Ellis Island and the family name got anglicized. Use the handle from the old country.

I never liked the name Melody much, and generally I like M names a lot. Era is odd to me. Is Era the last name or middle name?

@gailcalled Mary Elizabeth sounds very Catholic. Not that someone named that has to be Catholic, my mom wanted Shannon Elizabeth for my sister and the family went crazy that it sounded so Irish Catholic, and not a likely name within the family. I like the backstory idea though.

I’m with @SuperMouse . Love “Melody” .. not too sure about “Era”.

Meoldy is OK, Era is weird as a name.

I’m with @marinelife , Melody is ok, but Era just makes me think of this.

A better name would be Melody Rhythm.

“This beautifully crafted glass vase is worth an estimated three hundred thousand and it is from the Melody Era Era.”
Lose the Era bit, is what I, too, would suggest.

What about ” Aira”..I like that spelling!
Airabella! Wait..I know…Mellabella! haha
I have an old friend that named her daughter “Aja Monet.” :-)

I’d like Melody Electra!!!!

What about lady gaga?

Coloma's avatar

I like “Electra”!

Another name I really like is Tamsen.

I like the name Melody, but the word Era sounds contrived. It doesn’t sound like a real last name. The word era has a real meaning with regards to a point in time, so that’s what I’m thinking of, not the name of a person.

Same reason I never liked J.K. Rowlings’s name Bellatrix LeStrange. Well duh, of course she’s strange but you don’t want it to sound so obvious and contrived.

If you want it to sound sort of exotic then pick a real, but exotic sounding last name like Bouchard or Petrova.

I like it as a name for a fictional character in a story. As a name for a newborn baby, I don’t like it so much.

It sounds to me like you’re trying way too hard to come up with an original name. If you want it to sound original without sounding so contrived, try pairing one original name with a more common name. (i.e., if you made Era the first name, you could go with something like Era White. Still sounds unusual, but not unbelievably so.)

I once had a Bassett Hound named Melody Blue.

Coloma's avatar

@cprevite I knew a Basset Hound named Sybil Stubbs lol

Sounds too fucking posh M’lady Era, like something a fat butler would say to the queen or some other toffee nosed twat.
