When can I dye my hair again?

Asked by Kokoro (1424points) June 22nd, 2012 from iPhone

I have naturally dark brown hair and I dyed it black the other week. How many months can I wait until I bleach it light so I can dye it a bright color? Thanks

To go from dark to light can be very hard on hair. I suggest you do not use bleach at all. Your best bet is to see a professional hair dresser.

I would ask a professional also. FYI: next time you go really dark I recommend using a temp hair dye so it will wash out in 4–6 weeks if you like to change the color a lot.

Every 3 months won’t hurt anything. If you’re young you can use Kool-Aid and spray in color for funzies….lol

As has been mentioned, don’t use actual bleach. Use a good brand of hair color. I would recommend that you wait at least a month.

I’d wait at least 3 months. I wouldn’t recommend dyeing your hair yourself. It’s best to seek a professional.

A color lifter would be a safer option than bleach and would keep your hair in healthier condition.

It depends on how soon you want to lighten the color.

The recommendations above are totally on – have a professional colorist give you a color lifter so that you don’t trash your hair and ease into the color you ultimately want. If during your first color lift you can get it to the point where it will show lighter color, Kevin Murphy’s Color Bug shadow is a fun way to get bright pops of color without any commitment.

You can not use color to remove a dye job. As someone already stated, use a color “remover” or an oil bleach, which is less harsh than the powder version. :)

As far as when you can do another chemical process, if your hair isnt too damaged right now, I would do it right away, other wise you’ll be dealing with regrow and that will further complicate things. :)
