Who are the Globalists?

Asked by ETpro (34605points) July 1st, 2012

Take a look at this article on the 13th round of talks to conclude the Trans-Pacific Partnership, a massive NAFTA-like expansion of offshoring of US jobs. It includes backdoor agreements that will put SOPA like controls in place on data sharing over the Internet. Little in the treaty actually relates to trade. Much of it’s 26 chapters deal with a huge extension of corporate rights and privileges and limitations on government’s right to regulate or control how corporations behave. The negotiations were begun by George W Bush and have been proceeding under the cover of secrecy ever since.

Who is behind the drive for these changes? With all the power and wealth multinational corporations already have, why do they want so much more? If the world’s billionaires and multinational corporations succeed in turning 99.9% of the entire Earth’s population into wage slaves living on starvation diets so they can have all the wealth there is, who is going to buy the stuff they try to sell?

I have read this article before you posed this question & I found it appalling. The secrecy with which this so-called “Treaty” has been so deep that almost none of America’s citizens know anything about it. I cannot identify the “Globalists”, but I do know that these Globalists encompass the largest of the world’s multinational corporations. If this treaty is passed, it will be a disaster for the average citizen of the United States because it will give POWER & PROFIT to the big corporations – the 1% ..... whose only drive seems to be for power & profit at the expense of the world’s environment & at the expense of anyone who is not a member of the 1%.

This organization was actually started by President Kennedy. The Trans-Pacific Partnership is part of the Exucutive Office of the President.

How many appointments to this organization has Obama made since he has been in office?

@bkcunningham

Don’t try to confuse the issue. If there’s something untoward going on here, it Bush’s fault. Details like that only clutter up the debate.

@Linda_Owl It’s a much smaller group than 1%. More like 1/10th of 1% or less or the US population. When looking at the world population, it’s probably 1/100th of 1% or less. Most of the 1% just want to get along with life, and are actually pretty generous and altruistic.

@Jaxk Don’t be so supercilious. The drive toward globalism has been going on for a long time. It is neither George W. Bush or Barack Obama’s fault. But both were bought to the extent they kept the ball rolling. It was George H. W. Bush who first talked about a New World Order, and the movement toward globalism was well along at that point.

I guess that as long as these events are labeled as a form of Corporatism rather than Communism, they are ok then. Many people seemed to be more obsessed with labels rather than their actual meanings, along with the potential harm they may cause us.

A right leaning conspiracy theorist would call what the op described as a form of communism, while left leaning conspiracy theorists would call this either fascism or corporatism. The end result? It is an endless loop of perpetual finger pointing, regardless of any truths or not. An aristocracy is an aristocracy, whether it is left or right leaning, and whether it is socialist or corporatist.

@Paradox25 Good point. It really doesn’t matter whether you are a Feudal serf with a Nobleman as a master, a wage slave with a Corporatist master, or a member of the worker’s paradise that was so wonderful it required razor wire and machine gun nests to keep the workers in, working for their Party Elite masters. If you’re the slave and you’re under the hobnailed boot of a cruel, greedy master; it all comes to the same sort of life.

@ETpro In an ideal society where we were enlightened enough, communism would likely be the default way to live. Jesus disciples were communist, and so are the Amish (I live in the middle of Amish country). A left leaning aristocracy would never allow communism to manifest, and Marxism was nothing more than babble in the end, though I’m sure that Stalinism was not his goal. You can put the word communist in the name of your political party organization, but in the end this doesn’t make your party truly communist.

@Paradox25, how are the Amish and the disciples of Jesus communist?

@Paradox25 Thanks. The Nazis called themselves National Socialists, but they jailed union activists along with Jews, and exterminated many. They were not socialists, they were corporatists.

Likewise North Korea calls itself the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea. It is neither Democratic nor a Republic. It is a dictatorship where all power rests in one man’s hands and there is only one party, so no real democracy.

I will leave you to answer @bkcunningham question unless you would like me to do so.
