What's the best thing that has happened to you since you were 18?

Asked by blueberry_kid (5957points) July 10th, 2012

According to my sister, being 18 and on your own is amazing. She said she was very happy to finally move out.

What’s the best thing that’s happened to you since official adulthood?

Milestones in life after 18 are all really great experiences. Moving out on your own, graduating college, getting engaged, getting married, having kids, getting a decent job, each one was a huge event and always seemed better than anything yet in your life. Make sure you take time to enjoy each and every one!

Oh my, well, a lot has happened in the last 34 years since I was 18.
Married with children, divorced, ( happily )lots of life adventures.
Hard to pick the best but, my daughter, my country lifestyle with farm pets and becoming a fully integrated and self actualized adult.
Having a gardener that brings me the herbal essence for my happy brownies is pretty great too! lol

Well, I’ve only been 18 for two weeks, so not much to report thus far! I’ll have to get back to you when something interesting happens. ;)

Wait… just… one… thing?
Well the biggest thing was realizing I could do something about being trans and terminally depressed. I would have made the decision to start medical transition years ago but I surely would have been booted out of the good old family household.
For the past two years I have been happier than I knew it was possible to be. I am an adult now, and I never would have been an adult if I hadn’t made this decision. It’s been stressful and scary as shit as well. But I am very lucky to have some good people in this world who have my back when I need it.
After 18, you have the ability to irreparably fuck up your life, but you also have the power to choose to do the best by yourself that you can.

Same as @bookish1 for me – starting transition. My only regret is I didn’t start when I was 18.
