Yes -

I went back to my college a couple of times when I was in <the city where my college was> for business. Walked around the campus, went to the bookstore and bought some mugs and t-shirts, visited the library, and so on.

I’ve been back to my high school maybe once in the last 30 years. No reason to go back; everyone I knew has died or moved on.

Yes. I’ve been back to my grade school. Not much has changed. The public toilets are shin high. The junior high has been converted into the high school . The last time I was there was to sit in on a Shakespeare class that my sister was teaching. The cafeteria still displays a huge mural that contains the art work that my other sister participated in back in the 70s. Several years ago, my supervisor and I were near my college campus, and I took him on a tour. The high school I attended was closed down after we graduated. It is now a senior citizens’ home. I’d love to tour it once again.

No. I have been to my university’s performing arts center, but not visited the school itself, nor have I visited my elementary or high schools, either.

I drove past my junior school last year. My infant and high school have been demolished.

Yes, but not in the last five years. Both my high school and University.

Drove by my Grammar school and Junior high School, 3,000 miles away. while on vacation, eight years ago.

I used to see my grade school inside when I was in high school because on Sundays folk mass, that is ,mass with folk music, was in my former grade school gym. The mass was held on the school stage. But I haven’t been back for a long time. Those memories run very deep! I remember taking off my snowpants in the lobby outside the gym for chissakes!

I was back in my high school for a musical show after graduation but that was years ago. I remember a Christmas show when my little sister, then about 10 years old sang in the chorus “We need a little Christmas! right this very minute!”. I was so proud of her!

I have been back on my college campus upstate just wandering around. I miss it and would love to see it again. May go back for alumni weekend.

The school I have seen the most, and this is very recently, is my final school. I just finished taking a computer course (Adobe Illustrator) at my former college FIT. The teacher was great! I may take another course in the fall with the same instructor.

I visited my high school to say hi to my teachers.

I work at the elementary school that I went to for 9 years. It’s not exactly a high-paying job, but it’s interesting being back.

After romping around the west coast I have landed blocks away from the hospital I was born at and the high school I went to.

I was bored one day and tried to visit my woodshop, drafting, and chemistry teacher. Drafting teacher was dead and the others had moved on. It has been 20 years.

I’ve been back to my high school a couple of times. I was pretty close with some of my teachers, and they love to see former students and hear about what’s been going on.

I don’t plan to go back because I don’t want to see my physics teacher. She can’t know that I changed majors, it would break her heart!

Yes, but just to vote.

With a reunion group, I went back to my high school. There are now metal detectors at the front door. The third floor has been opened up into a large studio for creative arts; very colorful. There weren’t a lot of memories left except in our heads.

My university yes. Went a few times for football games.

I visit my university regularly—I still have friends on the faculty and enjoy events at that university from time to time.

I visited both of my high schools once to show my son, drove by my old middle school and elementary schools. All are still in business except my first elementary school- it became a storage facility for a filmmaking corporation.

Yes… every day… I work there

When you say school – I always think infant, junior or high school. @linguaphile just reminded me in the US (not sure about anywhere else) school can be university. I visit my university just about every day too.

JLeslie's avatar

@Bellatrix I guess that is tricky. I think most of the US people mean university when they ask where someone went to school. K-12 would usually be a conversation about where someone grew up and then maybe specifically ask where the person went to high school for instance. I asked a recent question about school, and was sure to specify k-12, because here it needs to be clarified.

Yes, my son did two stints of practice teaching at my old high school, and I had to take him and pick him up when he lost his driver’s licence…...

Sadly, the school is closing at the end of this year.

I’ve visited my university many times, mostly for conferences. Like @linguaphile, I have a few friends on the faculty/in administration, so I do see them when I’m in town.

Have not really visited any of my other schools in terms of seeing people/going inside, but my second high school is just blocks from where my parents live now, so I have walked around the grounds (they radically renovated/built/rebuilt the campus, so I wanted to see the changes). Have driven past my first high school just once or twice, and have driven past (but not wandered around) my junior high school several times. My first elementary school is now closed, and I have not been to my second elementary school since I attended.
