What do you think of Sharon Stones remarks about China's tragedy and Karma?

Asked by laudermale (97points) May 31st, 2008 from iPhone

I was really surprised at her making these outrageous comments. The Chinese governments treatment of the tibetans can cause the destructions and deaths of so many is absolutely insane. Sharon may need to not drink before the red carpet.

I don’t care what all these celebrities say or do, they have their own free will and conscience . Is it that important for my life to know what Hollywood spews out? Not by a long shot.

That’s no different than Pat Robertson and his remarks about Katrina, although obviously the two “villains” in their stories couldn’t be more different.

I totally agree…I was never going to justify my thoughts on foreign policy by running it by the likes of Sharon Stone. She is certainly entitled to her opinion, just as I am, just as you are, but she is far from an expert. If I want to know about China, I will ask a Chinese person. If I want to know how a Tibetan feels, I will ask someone from Tibet. If I want to know about crotchless panties I will ask Sharon Stone.

I think that they were blown completely out of proportion.

I agree with seVen. Boo Hollywood.

“Free Tibet” is a rallying cry for a lot of the Hollywood left, and it doesn’t surprise me that she’d use the “karma card” as a possible justification. In fact, I would bet that many in the eastern world would view the earthquake and it’s aftermath as a karmic payment (for something if not Tibet) because that’s quite in line with their belief systems. So, I guess I disagree that it’s an outrageous claim. If anything, the outrageous part is choosing to lash out at the Chinese government instead of expressing sympathy for those affected by the tragedy. Not very compassionate for a wannabe Buddhist.

She can say whatever she wants. 1st amendment.

The only time I judge what people say is when politicians that control things that directly affect my life and country. Its their words that need to be scrutinized, not Sharon Stone’s thoughts on karma’s relationship to foreign policy.

You can’t blame the poor things really. All this ridiculous out-of-proportion adulation for acting, which is just a craft. They’re human; it goes to their heads, and they really think their thoughts are more important than those of others.

Sadly, without a script, many of them are idiots. Her cold-hearted, thoughtless, cruel remarks were just the mouthings of an idiot.

I agree with kevbo. I don’t think what she said was that outrageous or bad, in fact, I share some Eastern beliefs (karma being one of them), so it was something I could imagine myself saying. I think what makes her statement hard to swallow, or how the press made it bad (I have not read any articles on what she said verbatim) is that she appears lacking in sympathy for the victims of the quake.

Worse things have been said… recently!

Something tells me that Mrs. Stone has never been to China and doesn’t know much about how things go on there. While China has it share of horrible ways to solve over-crowding and less than stellar human rights records, saying something like this makes her look as stupid as Jerry Falwell and Pat Robertson saying Katrina and Sept. 11th happen because of gays/prostitution/evolution.

Chinese people become more and more capitalistic by the day as we continue to paint them as the red Commie bastards, in 50 years we could wake up to be the red Commie bastards if we aren’t careful.
