Do some people actually find "the duck face" attractive?

Asked by WillWorkForChocolate (23163points) July 13th, 2012

Seriously, why do some women think they’re so cute when they pose their lips in a ridiculous manner?

I don’t understand this at all. Why isn’t your normal face good enough, eh? Does anyone actually find this attractive?

I have to admit to a desire to thrust something between those lips.

Do you remember when you were a teen and a flock of peers suddenly started wearing blue eye shadow or carrying around a honking huge tube of Lip Smackers gloss or wearing a specific brand of clothing?

The only thing constant is the change of what young people dream up, and it becomes the next silly fad.

Ducks aren’t even attractive. Their bills are hard, lol.

Didn’t the duck face come from Marilyn Monroe? Some women love to idolize her.

woodcutter's avatar

I can’t get those links to work. I don’t know about this duckface look. I know what a duck looks like but can’t imagine how a fleshy faced person could pull it it off. shit.

Hahaha…I have an ex friend that always posed with the duck face. She was really pretty but it looked so obviously fake and staged. Stupid!

Coloma's avatar

Okay…gotta bring back my favorite avatar. I’m goose woman ya know! lol

I have to admit, I did it once for the camera, when my ex boyfriend was taking the picture. I had on a red dress and turquoise Chuck Taylor Allstars…I was just being silly…besides, my lips aren’t even all fat and luscious like hers

Two guys do the archtypical Myspace poses…
Exhibit A
Exhibit B
Ladies, you don’t really look any less ridiculous when you do it.

I think they think it looks like a natural pout such as Jolie’s or Bardot’s which of course it does not.

WillWorkForChocolate's avatar

@hiphiphopflipflapflop Ahaha! I love those. And yes, always ridiculous.

@Bellatrix Oh goodness, I wish I had a gorgeous, natural pout. But I still won’t attempt a duckface to get it. :D

The bottom desire is to be found attractive by multiple males. This is how society measures the worth of a woman. And will continue to do so as long as women go along with the standards and make being desired by multiple men the most important thing we have to offer.
(Paraphrasing Gloria Steinem)

@Trillian I couldn’t agree more!

Ridiculous.

digitalimpression's avatar

I find it kinda cute if done by the right person. I certainly wouldn’t call it a “go to” move for everyone though.

Haleth's avatar

@hiphiphopflipflapflop Those are hilarious. They reminded me of men-ups.

Duck face is totally fucking heinous. Girls aren’t the only offenders. >.>

linguaphile's avatar

I think Renee and The Twins started it by saying “prune” to the camera, but of course everyone else has to take it further.

ZEPHYRA's avatar

Pathetic! Don’t you wish the lips would just freeze there and NEVER unfreeze so they would walk around with that rubber lips look?

Berserker's avatar

Ew puckered lips. I never liked that.

Nimis's avatar

The smooch can look cute.*
But these have gone awry.
Horribly, horribly awry.

* Though not on Facebook, profile, or webcam pictures.

Berserker's avatar

They should make a horror movies about these. Then I might like them.

Ponderer983's avatar

I get more compliments about my smile so why in the world would I want to contort my lips like that. I think it looks ridiculous. I only make that face when I am joking around.

rooeytoo's avatar

Every other picture I see of kids on facebook have the subjects making that face, or sticking their tongues out (especially attractive if the tongues are white coated and disgusting after a night of drinking), licking someone or making strange hand gestures. Not just women are doing it! Just another kiddy fad I would guess.

Earthgirl's avatar

@Haleth Men-ups? Oh man, those were great. So funny.

Earthgirl's avatar

This seems to make people soooo pissed off! I don’t go on Facebook much so I don’t see it all the time. It really can look ridiculous and silly but isn’t it just making a kiss at the camera? Maybe the thing that annoys people is the posing of it and the fact that in a lot of cases these girls are taking their own picture in order to post it.

Keep_on_running's avatar

Some like @Adirondackwannabe, yes.

@hiphiphopflipflapflop Ahaha. I have two “fix my hair and be serious” photos on my laptop. Shit.

Kardamom's avatar

It reminds me too much of the Olesen Twins and that makes me rather ill.

woodcutter's avatar

Oh I get it now. I call it the cow anus look

WillWorkForChocolate's avatar

And now, they have shoes to match!
