Care to be part of the Fluther Accent Challenge Part 2?

Asked by jca (36062points) July 18th, 2012

Go to Audioboo.fm and speak naturally (in other words, don’t read anything, just tell a tale) for a little bit and show us your accent. This was done a few months ago, but at that time we read a passage from a book and I think when you read, you speak differently than when you just speak on your own. So talk about anything, your day, your summer, your happiness, your pets, whatever, and let us hear you (again!).

Do it, please @jca. I want to hear how you sound when you talk.

OMG, performance anxiety! Have no clue what to say if I’m not supposed to just read something.

Come on. Give me a voice to go with that beautiful head of hair, @WillWorkForChocolate. ;~*

Although the microphone quality is not that great, I hope it is not important. I do have a slight speech impediment, which you can definitely notice (although I do not notice it when speaking). This is the first time anyone on the internet has heard my voice, so I was nervous and did not know what to say.

As mentioned in the video, although I am living in South Carolina in the US, I was not born there. I want to see who can guess where I was actually born. This is a little experiment to see how accurate / not accurate accents are in determining where a person was born.

My voice.

Pandora’s box has been opened.

Wherein I babble about unimportant things.

@PhiNotPi, you sound like someone I know, although I know you aren’t him. When I first heard you say a couple of words, I thought you sounded like you were from the UK and then, surprisingly, you used the British as an example in a couple of words. Anyway, if I had to guess a second guess, I’d say from the West VIrginia Panhandle near Pennsylvania.

I want to know where jca’s voice recording is! Come on, @jca!

You’re voice is as soft and sweet as I imagined it to be, @WillWorkForChocolate. Did you speak on another recording for Fluther? One where Fiddleplayingcreolebastard spoke and everyone read a couple of paragraphs from a book or something?

WillWorkForChocolate's avatar

Yes, it was quite a while back, but we all used vocaroo.com and read a passage from a book or poem.

@PhiNotPi Viet Nam? Or somewhere in SouthEast Asia, or Hong Kong.

I’m going to try to do this later on tonight or tomorrow night. Is audioboo better or is vocaroo.com better? We used audioboo last time. I’ll use whatever the majority thinks is better. Are you all doing it?

@WillWorkForChocolate – BAHAHAHA. You were all normal-like, then busted out with a characteristic phrase that made me oh-so-happy.

I’m thinking of doing this, but I really don’t know what to talk about. Though I suppose I should say the word “about”, to prove that Canadians don’t say “aboot”.

WillWorkForChocolate's avatar

@Seelix What, the spider thing? :D

@WillWorkForChocolate – Your second-last hobby was what made me giggle first ;)

Ahhh, yes. I engage in that particular hobby quite frequently.
