it’s a big place. Of course you must see the opera house, You can walk the harbour bridge on a tour. See Manley. Go to the rocks. You can learn some history about transportation sentences to Australia there! Go to Darling Harbour if you want some great Chinese food. And of course go to the beach.

Welcome to Fluther, @john65.

I haven’t been to Sydney for almost 20 years, but I can highly recommend the Opera House and the Botanical Gardens nearby. The zoo is wonderful. I can’t find any on the web right now, but there are some great restaurants to eat oysters.

This is a great list of things to do.

I’m in Sydney right now, but for work rather than sight seeing.

The zoo is fabulous as @Hawaii_Jake suggests. The giraffes have the best view in the world.
Take the Manly Ferry from Circular Quay. Such a great trip and not expensive.
Bondi Beach and if you have time do the walk from Bondi to Bronte beach. You can take in Waverley cemetery. The most beautiful cemetery ever.
Take a drive and look at the Northern Beaches area. If you go at the right time of year you can sometimes see Humpback whales on their migration up the coast.
Something we loved and haven’t done for ages is the Quarantine Station. We did the ghost tour but I think they might have cancelled that now.
There is a Justice and Police Museum. I haven’t been there but have heard its great.
My kids LOVED the maritime museum. You can play around on ships and submarines.
The Rocks – great market there at the weekend. Take the time to wander around.
Susannah Place – some of the oldest housing in Sydney.
Elizabeth Bay House it has had a very interesting history.
If you are here for long enough – take a drive out to the Blue Mountains. Very beautiful.

Have fun.

Bondi of course, Powerhouse Museum, Art Gallery of NSW and Gallery of Contemporary Art are all great. Climb the coat hanger bridge if you are daring and want the best view in town. IF you are not an aussie and you want to pet a roo or koala Featherdale Wildlife Park is great. You can also see dingos and native birds as well. I love China Town. A ride on one of the ferries or river cats is great fun. (there are a lot of greats in there, but Sydney is a great town! Of course not as good as Melbourne!!!)

And if you go to Kings Cross, watch out, it’s not a very safe place to be these days!

(john pennington is it you??? if it is pm me and we can get together while you are in country)

I think Bondi beach was completely overrated (but then I had been living in New Zealand and enjoying those beaches so Bondi and Manly were a big yawns for me) I loved the zoo. I would have walked around the historic areas more, if I had had the time. I had done wildlife petting zoos in the Brisbane area, so I don’t know much about those in the Sydney area, but I recommend finding one so you can get a nice up close look at an emu, wallaby, kangaroo and koala while you are there. I was fascinated by the dingos, but you can’t pet those…. they look all sweet and dog-like, but they will rip you to shreds if given the chance. I have a picture of my son when he was younger, being eyed up by a pack of dingos that were behind an enclosure, but they were almost eye to eye. He was smiling and laughing and the dingos were licking their chops. Chilling.
