Is the winning side always the one with the better songs?

Asked by LostInParadise (31913points) August 8th, 2012

When I was young, I had this naive theory that you could pick the winner in war or politics by comparing the songs of the two sides. Do you think there is any truth to this? Has there ever been any good right wing music? How do the songs of North and South compare from the Civil War? Did the Germans come up with any good songs from the world wars?

I’m sorry, but I don’t think that is true.

What is right wing music?

@marinelife , Do you have any good counter-examples?
@bkcunningham , Right wing music would echo right wing themes, like less government, white supremacy, anti-immigration, and pro-war

I think the reverse is true and you can take the many Irish rebel songs as an example.

Too many German composers to mention.

My generation of German musical talent.

Well Dixie sure was a lot more singable than the Battle Hymn of the Republic, and was a lot more close to the heart. “I wish I was in the land of cotton” is closer to the heart than “trampling out the vintage where the grapes of wrath are stored.”

The South had better songs but it didn’t do them much good.
