From what I have heard I would fall in the rock camp.

It is difficult to put a decisive label, i would think that they are somewhere within pop rock/ goth rock so im not sure if i’m making this genre up – pop goth (with rock guitar)...:?

I’d say gothic rock. They do play some metal but majority of their songs are rock.

Last.fm considers them rock, gothic rock, femal vocalists, gothic, alternative. I consider them crap.

@uberbatman Aye. And what the hell, femal vocalists? O_o

@Symbeline yea I thought that a pretty odd tag as well.

“Genre” implies that Evanescence plays music.

However, officially, they combine/straddle genres, so Gothic nu-metal would likely be the closest non-derogatory label.

Now if it weren’t for the fact that most of their songs sound the same; they need to at least learn more chords!

For about half a second I saw “gothic rock” and thought it was referring to musically-inclined barbarian hordes.

Then? Much more alternative than anything.
Now? Gothic Rock is probably the most accurate label.

Old post! Outstanding! I love being late for the party.

Depressive Rock.

Every song seems to follow a preset path of “me, me, me” followed by instrumentals from an entire orchestra followed by chorus from some church choir group followed by “moan moan moan” more of the same from the orchestra, more of the same from the church choir group, and when they decide to get – God forbid – <shock horror> adventurous, they try bunging in all of the above at the same time.

People enjoy this, but I have no idea why.

Whereas, e.g. Nickelback would sing songs about how it sucks that some poor wench they care about is suffering..Evanescence is the collective wench that is suffering and actually bemoans their existence whilst going about it.

Such happy-happy, joy-joy tunes!
