Mirror desktops on Windows XP?

Asked by colin (574points) June 4th, 2008

After connecting my IBM Thinkpad to an external monitor, I cannot mirror the desktop. When I go into Control Panel->Display->Settings, the checkbox for “Use this device as the primary monitor” is grayed out. I think this is the option I need…I want to switch the primary monitor from the laptop monitor to the external monitor. Does anyone know why this would be grayed out?

check “Extend my desktop to this monitor”...that will “un-grey” the primary monitor option…but then you’ll have to mess with it a little bit to get the twin display to work…do you know what graphics processor the laptop has? Intel, nvidia, etc?
