Does Beauty Have an Age Limit?

Asked by osullivanbr (3630points) June 4th, 2008 from iPhone

Do you think that once a certain age is reach beauty stops being a possibility or is it ageless? How exactly are you defining beauty?

True beauty is timeless.

cheebdragon's avatar

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder…..

PupnTaco's avatar

No age limit.

And true beauty is inside… although Sarah Jessica Parker can’t seem to overcome. Ugh.

cheebdragon's avatar

Am I the only person who doesn’t think sarah jessica Parker is pretty??

scamp's avatar

@cheebdragon , nope. I don’t think she is very pretty either.

susanc's avatar

At my age I have to believe that beauty grows up instead of disappearing.

If our inner spirit remains kind and true and loving to those that know us we always remain beautiful. My husband and I are both 38. If he loses all of his hair and all of his teeth when he gets older, I will still think he is the most good looking sexy man around!

Have you ever seen a 100 year old beautiful person? Nope- because they don’t exist. They may have a different kind of beauty but not a supermodel with great skin type of beauty. And even if there was a 100 year old beautiful person, eventually they would die and become rotting flesh- which is generally accepted to be a very un-beautiful thing.

So, to answer your question, beauty in the physical sense has an age limit.

scamp's avatar

@elchoopanebre that may be true if you are only talking of physical beauty, but there is much more to beauty than just physical appearance. For instance, read mzgator ‘s example above your post.

Beauty comes from within, therefore it is timeless.

Emmylou Harris is 61.

Julianne Moore is 47.

I’m sure there’s tons of examples like this.

Assuming that beauty is only skin deep… It depends on the person. For example Cher and Madonna hit theirs long ago but nobody told them.

I don’t get Sarah Jessica Parker either.

Look at the photographs of Georgia O’Keefe as she aged. That bone structure, those graceful hands, the aristocratic profile and posture.

@spargett, your first link looks like a disection of some sort. That is certainly not a human.

I have to agree with the people saying that beauty is in the eye of the beholder, and what is on the inside is most important.

babygalll's avatar

I don’t think there is an age limit on beauty.. Beauty isn’t just surface it’s the inside beauty that counts.

PupnTaco's avatar

Emmylou Harris will always be sexy.

Dissected or not.

No. You can say all the crap about how inner beauty is timeless and thats all that matters like its a disney movie. But I am shallow and when I think about Beauty, i think about outward appearance. After a certain age, your looks simply start fading away. Yes there are a few rich people who have managed to look stunning but for the majority of the people, their beauty fades away after a certain age

shawnlxc's avatar

no, I love older women. The attitude and personality is what makes the main attraction, unless your really shallow

mirza's avatar

Wait i was supposed to say YES in my answer instead of no

atr408's avatar

Physical beauty does for sure but as for internal beauty, I guess not.

There are different definitions of beauty. The couple who have been married for 60 years and been through everything together will probably see each other as beautiful. However, someone walking down the street and seeing that couple will not think the same thing.

What is funny to me is seeing somebody who ‘went under the knife’ to preserve their youthful ‘beautiful’ appearance and now just look plain freaky.

cheebdragon's avatar

burt reynolds is freaky ☆

wildflower's avatar

Beauty does not have an upper or lower age limit – it also does not have an expiry date or set shelf-life.

Letters only cheeb.

breedmitch's avatar

@Mrs Dr.: He has put on weight.

babygalll's avatar

@ Mrs Dr: Does every response you make have to be about Tim Curry? I am sure you can think beyond him.

scamp's avatar

Thank you babygalll!!

I must say it is refreshing to see so many people not immediately jumping in and looking at beauty as the personal appearance. It’s nice to see people do often see that the more important view of beauty is internal.

For those of you with that opinion, thank you, you’ve made me feel better about society by a degree or two.

Also, I now don’t feel so bad about letting you see my photo
I ate a lot of McDonalds that day, hence the breasts

@osullivanbr lookin gooood!! ha ha!!

Beauty is only skin deep, but ugly goes clear to the bone!

AstroChuck's avatar

Well I’m 46 and gorgie! So I guess it at least goes that far.

Seemaa's avatar

No there is no end in it ..
Beauty is a characteristic of a person, or idea that provides a perceptual experience of pleasure, meaning, or satisfaction.

AstroChuck's avatar

Make that 48 now. And slightly less gorgie.

Dollyy's avatar

Beauty has no age limit..

gailcalled's avatar

Here’s Vanessa Redgrave, then and now. (I am thirty days older than she.)

She still has a face that can launch “a thousand ships.”

AstroChuck's avatar

@gailcalled- I don’t know about that, Gail. She’s definitely no Helen of Troy.

MRSHINYSHOES's avatar

I think looking your best at any age is beauty in itself.

Hypocrisy_Central's avatar

That depends on if you can get to ”grandma age” and still look hot (like Sharon Stone in her 50s). Sadly with way too many, beauty has an expiration date, at least in the physical.
