Can I format my main partition and re-install windows 7 without losing the data on the second partition?

I have two partitions- Partition C and D. Partition D has all of my data on it, and Partition C is the partition for the main system files. Can I simply pop in the windows 7 cd, format partition C and re-install windows without messing with the data in partition D?
