What is the difference Java and PHP?

Asked by agrima (4points) October 8th, 2012

The root of this dispute boils down to the development of IDEs (integrated development environments) and how each language has handled objects over time. Originally, PHP didn’t support OOP (object oriented programming) until PHP4, and didn’t have a strong IDE. Since PHP 5.3 however, its support for OOP has improved tremendously. Furthermore, in the past year or so, some really great IDEs have emerged to support PHP development. Java on the other hand has always been uniquely defined by its OOP nature, and has has always had great IDEs.

With regards to particular IDE’s? With regards to how they implement objects?

The overall differences are more numerous than I would care to list.

PHP and Java are completely different languages. PHP is only web based, while Java is mainly client based (although can used on the web through java applets). Both PHP and Java have their complete separate interpreters, and they are both essentially guided towards different purposes.

Java is mainly used for creating software that runs on the computer,

PHP is mainly used for creating websites.
