Would it be feasible for Fluther to have a list of all active jellies in alphabetical order?

What is your definition of active?

What would we use it for? Would you delete friends because they haven’t logged in for some given number of days? Bear in mind the list would be many thousands of names long.

And some, who ride on other people’s coattails, like Milo, would not appear at all.

Dude, no way. That would just make it creepy. And anyways, the staff would have to decide what constitutes as inactive. Like what, a year, six months? Active or deleted profile?
But then, if one of those people came back, expecting to be welcomed back and missed, they’d just see that the site views them as dead, and that’s freakin depressing homie.
Fluther doesn’t dispose of its members man! This isn’t Facebook, for Skeletor’s sake!

Noooooo, I don’t mean it to be creepy! I mean I would like to know if some of our friends have deleted their account or not!

DaphneT's avatar

Why would you want to? Oh, well. if you’re searching for your friends then you should already know if they’ve deleted their account. Creeping out everyone else, not a good thing.

Here is a list of every Fluther user ever. This list really does include everyone, regardless of activity, and it also includes every spammer that Fluther has ever had. People who have left / been banned also appear on this list, although their profile page is not visible when you try to visit it.

The list is in the order of the most recent log-in, with the users who have logged in most recently on the top.

@PhiNotPi Bingo!!!!! Thanks….

Hmmm…...well, I logged in a couple of hours ago and I gave up looking for myself after page 4. lol

gailcalled's avatar

Why on earth give up? The list is not alphabetized and there are only slighly over 82,000 names listed.

Coloma's avatar

^^^^ Haha…well, sometimes my attention span is that of a Mosquito. I’m there somewhere. 82,000 members…holy mother of fluther!

PhiNotPi's avatar

I’m not 100% sure that the list is in the order of most recent log-in. My reasoning was this:

1) Everyone on the first few pages had visited in the last few days (you can see the last time that a user has visited by looking at the person’s profile page)

2) I logged out and then logged back in and my name appeared at the very top of the list.

wundayatta's avatar

It would be useful if you could get everyone on one page.

Nice try, FBI.

Well, I still think that the list is in the order of most recent log-in. I’ve logged out and logged back in several times, and each time my name goes from lower down on the list to the very top.

Perhaps the arrangement of names is triggered by a different, but still very specific action on the server. Maybe it is triggered by the most recent log-out (regardless of whether they have logged back in or not)? The list of users is not visible to me when I am logged out, so I can’t tell.

@wundayatta It might be possible to use a script to browse through the thousands of pages of users and compile a list, but I don’t know how to do it.

FLUTHER TOWN POPULATION!!!!!

I’m guessing it is by log in, and that @Coloma never logged out. Just returned to the site, already logged in.

I had to check. The oldest one is “tester” from Oct 21, 2006,.

Seeing the number of 1 lurve wonders makes me appreciate our mods even more than I did already. Thanks!

PhiNotPi's avatar

@LuckyGuy Searching through my email inbox reveals that the moderators have banned over 700 people (pretty much all spammers) in a timespan of about one month.

PhiNotPi's avatar

^ A more detailed search revealed that the number of bannings is almost 1000. Most people don’t realize how many spammers there are.

The mod team kicks spam ass!
