What is the difference between Dreadnought and Grand Auditorium?

Asked by wds2 (230points) October 21st, 2012

In acousitc guitars, what’s the difference between these body styles? I’m looking at getting a Hagstrom acousitc and don’t really know the difference between these styles.

Dreadnought is thicker at the waist, Grand Auditorium is thinner at the waist. Dreadnought is slightly louder. Depends on how you are using the guitar.

I’ve heard that Dreadnoughts can be less comfortable and have a lower, more prevelant bass, is this true?
