My iPhone 4S won't connect to my computer. How can I fix it? (Details inside)

Asked by Fly (8726points) November 11th, 2012

My iPhone 4S won’t connect to my computer. I’m using a Dell laptop that’s running Windows 7, and I have the latest software updates for my iPhone and for iTunes. As far as I can tell, the driver won’t download properly. When I first tried connected my phone a few months ago, I got an error message stating that there was a problem downloading the driver, but none of the troubleshooting options helped. Since then, my computer won’t even attempt to install the driver. When I connect my phone to the computer, my computer recognizes that something is plugged in, but it won’t show up in iTunes and my phone won’t recognize that it is plugged in; it won’t even charge through the computer. And yes, I have tried all of the USB ports on my laptop.

Any help at all would be greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance!

Have you tried reloading iTunes on the Dell? Sound like the laptop is having a problem with iPhone. Try deleting iTunes and reloading.

@Tropical_Willie Sorry, forgot to mention that I did already try re-installing iTunes. From what I can tell, it seems to be more of a problem with the computer itself.

The quickest way to get it resolved is to call Apple iPhone support. Just ask for a product specialist if the front line person can’t solve it.

Your iPhone comes with free telephone support. Any issues I’ve ever had for yeara have been dealt with by the excellent Apple folks. I’ve never been on hold for longer than a few mins. No exaggeration.

There’s a reason why they are constantly rated number one by Consumer Reports for tech support.
