Is there a good on-line site for appraisal of old books?

Asked by Strauss (23618points) December 4th, 2012

We are downsizing our household inventory of a lot of stuff, and that means a lot of things are being donated to the local thrift stores. We have a sizable library, including some old books. I’m going to be offering them on ebay, but before I do, I’d like to research the potential value. Is there a website that will help me do this?

The best place to look would be on e-bay itself.

As with any appraisal, it is impossible to be accurate without actually seeing the item, due to the variations in condition.

I used to have a link to a fabulous site but I can’t find it now. So I just did a search and ran a bit of a comparative test on the sites I found. I used Charles Dicken’s, Great Expectations with illustrations by Norman Lindsay (1947), The Shepherd Press edition.

This is a useful site that provides guidance on valuing books and gives recommendations on which sites are most useful.
