Did any of you see John Carter?

Asked by Aesthetic_Mess (7894points) December 13th, 2012

Did you ever read the Edgar Rice Burroughs novels it was based on? If so, did you think that it was a good adaptation of the books?
If you didn’t, what did you think of the movie in general?
I haven’t seen it, and I’ve heard all these mixed opinions about it.

I did, and I thought it was much better than the reviews and the critics said.

My friend Karl read the books several times, and loved them, yet he didn’t go to the movie. That failure to get your core audience is a good reason it failed at the box office.
I saw the movie, and really didn’t care for it, but I did like the end. It was a bit too much, and had too many characters that needed better introductions. I was struggling to understand which bad guys were which.

My dad had the books from when he was a kid, and I read them as a young adult.
The movie was painfully bad and I couldn’t even watch all of it.

I read some of the books, but it was a long time ago. I did see the movie and I thought it was a lot better than what all the naysayers were saying. It’s a good summer movie.

I have not seen it, and didn’t know it was based on books. Just downloaded A Princess of Mars (free ebooks are awesome!). Thanks for the heads up – I’m just about finished with my current read, the Earthsea books.

I never read the books, and didn’t expect much from the movie, but I was pleasantly surprised by how much fun it was. It wasn’t like the acting was great or anything, but I enjoyed the hell out of it.

Have not read the book. That maybe is one of the reasons why I enjoyed the movie so much. Great sfx, the characters were relatable and interesting and the telling of the story was engaging. Plus, I really did not mind the Princess’s outfit. Lol.
