Can you make it through a meal without drinking anything?

Asked by AshlynM (10684points) December 18th, 2012

I know some people can do it, but I can’t. I don’t think I’ve ever made it through an entire meal without drinking at least one sip of something, even if it’s water.

I could, but I don’t. I prefer to drink throughout. I feel like it keeps me from overeating, which is a plus.

No! I always need something to drink with a meal. When I was growing up, we would all have a glass of something to drink along with dinner. So when having dinner at another person’s house, I will often be surprised when the host does not set out glasses – and sometimes I have to ask in the middle of the meal, if I haven’t noticed the glass missing.

I can’t. My mouth gets dry and I can’t swallow.

I can, but I don’t like to.

Only if the meal consists primarily of soup. And if I am not in polite company, I would drink the soup so that nullifies the question.

I could if I had to, but why? I find that I eat less when I include a glass of water with my meal.

Yes I can and do. I prefer not drinking anything so as not to get full to quickly.

But when it comes to fun food I like to drink….cheese and wine, beer and burgers, pizza and beer, Margaritas, taco chips and salsa, etc.

I often forget to take a drink with dinner.

When I’m really hungry, yes.

I’ve done it when in a hurry and I didn’t have anything to drink. I just bolted my food and went and found some water somewhere.

If the meal consists of soup and/or salad, then I can.

If it’s anything drier than those, then probably not.

However, if I’m offered enough of an incentive, I could probably do a dry run through a bag of chips with peanut butter. ;-|

I’ve never considered it to be something worth doing, so I haven’t tried. I did have a health class once that told us that we should to eat and drink separately – heck with that!

Probably, unless it was some food that really makes you thirsty. I usually like drinking juice or water with my meals though.

I try not to. I get the hiccups if I eat bread or rice without water.

Sure. I try to drink a glass of water before I eat to fill me up, so eating lightly afterwards doesn’t take long or cause much thirst, unless it’s super salty which I wouldn’t eat anyway.

I’ve only done this when I had to, otherwise I usually drown myself with some type of liquid while eating. I get too thirsty easily while eating, plus drinking when eating helps wash the food down and cleans your mouth out to some degree.

No. I am a water girl, and aside from a soda on occasion like with pizza or the rare fast food moment, gimme my water. Not soda, not wine, not beer, not juice. WATER! haha
