Can you help me with a Mac FireWire connection problem?

Asked by Pachy (18610points) January 13th, 2013

I have an older external disk drive that connects via FireWire only and want to connect it to my year-old iMac. Problem is, the iMac’s FireWall port won’t accept the older-style FireWire cable. Is there a cable or adapter than can solve this? Thanks in advance for any help you can give me.

Here you go an adapter sold at Apple Stores.

Does your iMac have Thunderbolt http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thunderbolt_(interface)
Fluther doesn’t like Wikipedia’s use of parentheses in its URLs, for some reason
– or FireWire 800 http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Firewire?
Check the logo by the port.
I just want to be sure that you buy the correct adapter.

Thanks everybody. I got a cable that works, but the drive doesn’t. Ugh!
