Can I share something?

Asked by kitszu (1331points) January 14th, 2013

So I was doing some cleaning tonight and stumbled across “The 12 Virtues” (as I call them, there are only nine though). I had all but forgotten them. Just a collection of sayings I found on a pagan website (no author was credited).

You are Strong…When you take your grief and teach it to smile.

You are Brave…When you refuse to allow your fear to control you.

You are Content…When you see a flower and it makes you smile.

You are Loving…When your own pain does not blind you to the pain of others.

You are Wise…When you know the limits of your wisdom.

You are Alive…When tomorrows hope means more to you than today’s despair.

You are Free…When you are in control of yourself and do not wish to control others.

You are Honorable…When you find your honor is to honor others.

You are Merciful…When you forgive in others the faults you condemn in yourself.

I found this something like 10 years ago and I’ve used it as a kind of moral compass I suppose. I guess I fell in-love with it because it’s stating wisdoms in a simple but also practical way. I don’t think I’m saying exactly what I mean here but it’s close enough.

I never have cash, I always use my card but when I went to pay the clerk at the gas station, I had exactly nine dollars. So I sat down and wrote one of these on each dollar.

Sorry, I realize this is a pretty random post but I was so happy to have found it and wanted to share.

Yes, you may share, and it’s very nicely put.

You defaced US currency and you will pay if you ever get caught!!!!!!

Just kidding

Thank you for sharing that ^_^

But wundy’s right, writing on currency is a crime, haha. Quick, is it too late to edit that? ;)

Very good! Looks like I have some work to do in a lot of areas. HA!

Really? They would throw me in jail for sharing peacful happy things but not the people who stamp money with “where’s Waldo?” and “Track me?”

LoL. I won’t tell if you won’t. :)

kitszu's avatar

Besides, they haven’t caught me for anything I’ve done_ yet_ @wundayatta .

Kind of feel like the odds are in my favor, lol. ;)

Very inspirational. Thanks for posting the list. I’ve copied it and saved it in my wisdom file. Now to work on having the wisdom to refer to that resource.

You’ve made each of those bills more valuable then they could otherwise have possibly been. That is, more valuable than any writing that was printed by the Mint.

Thanks for sharing.

I love it, it’s true, we should all write on currency more. I’m being serious here. It can change your day, even your life.

kitszu's avatar

@ETpro , @CWOTUS , @Shippy Thank you guys! I mean it, you’ve made my warm fuzzy moment, warmer and fuzzier, lol.

It made me think back to the autobiography question (finding the book where I had it written down I mean). Some random person wrote that, posted it online for all to read and didn’t even ‘sign’ their name, didn’t take credit for such an awsome set of thoughts.

Little ripples in a big pond, perhaps they really are more signifigant than they are given credit for? :)

Thank you. You made the day a little brighter. Now can you make it a little cooler? It’s warm this afternoon in this part of the world. I’m looking forward to being back home in Connecticut next week. But I don’t mind being a little bit warm. That’s pretty nice, too.

LOL. I’m sorry, I traded my powers to control the weather for a smoke, like an hour ago! I wish you’d asked sooner.

I could huff and puff and try to send some of Pittsburgh’s weather your way if you give me a direction to blow in.

That said don’t bring the warm weather where you are back with you, I hate being hot and I am taking full advantage of winter.

Very nice—I love these. Thank you for sharing, and I won’t tell anyone about the defaced (face-lifted!) currency.

I have never heard of anyone being prosecuted for defacing currency. I have heard of people getting prosecuted for drawing currency so accurately that people can’t tell the difference. I always wonder about people who write on bills. Usually the writing I see is much more mysterious than what you wrote.

Personally, I am not fond of affirmations and wise, yet trite little sayings. I’m just a killjoy, I guess. All in all, I’d rather be reading Kierkegaard. Now if someone took a sentence from Kierkegaard and wrote that on a bill, that would definitely be worth reading. Frustrating as all hell, too.

kitszu's avatar

@picante You made me giggle and believe me, I f***ing need to right now

kitszu's avatar

@wundayatta I’m not a big fan of “trite little sayings” either.

Just thought I’d switch things up a little bit and not be a bitch today. ;)

Oh, and I actually found some personal meaning in them anyway, and thought I’d share (you know, just in case).

wundayatta's avatar

@kitszu I’m glad it was meaningful for you. And I don’t mean to denigrate that by talking about my experience. But all in all, I prefer the bitch. But don’t mind me. I’m just a dirty old cur.

And I smell bad. ;-)

kitszu's avatar

@wundayatta I like the bitch better too but she only feeds part of me. Anyway, I know you weren’t trying to _“denigrate“_what I posted, no worries. Where do I find out who Kierkegaard is?
