I have 2 weeks, a budget of, say, $2K (not including airfare). Something adventurous and exotic!

Nepal. I visited in 2000 and it was the best trip I've taken. Getting there isn't cheap, but once you're there it is. I found it to be a less aggressive version of India with similar culture, but much less intense (particularly in terms of begging and haggling). They went through several years of political instability, but things have settled down quite a bit lately. That said, you should always read the U.S. State Department travel advisories before traveling, especially if you plan to hit a more "exotic" destination. http://travel.state.gov/travel/cis_pa_tw/tw/tw_1764.html

Croatia. Spectacularly beautiful coastline and islands (like Dugi Otok), accessible national parks (like Plitvice), delicious Italian food and friendly English-speaking people. I visited last fall for a puppet festival in Zagreb and then rented a car to go exploring. If you sail, it's even better!

I would recommend Aruba, its a beautiful place with great people. Also, The Travel Channel is always a good way to get a glimpse of exotic places. It could definatly help you decide where you want to take your vacation. Or talk to a travel agent, they usually have brochures about the locations and you can get good prices.
