What would you say as the best Disney produced non-animated movies?

Asked by mazingerz88 (28813points) February 5th, 2013

I’m aware that Disney has produced lots of non-animated films but nothing comes to mind as being great movies. Although I have a strong feeling they do exist. Could you think of some? Thanks.

My favorite non-animated Disney flick is probably The Rocketeer.

Never Cry Wolf
Something Wicked This Way Comes

Don’t forget that in the 80s, Disney started making live action films under Touchstone and other labels.

@glacial Can’t seem to recall if I saw Never Cry Wolf. But Something Wicked, yes. I remember not enjoying it. The direction and the storytelling felt “disjointed” to me. Thanks for mentioning about the Disney and Touchstone connection.

@filmfann It was not great but there is something about The Rocketeer that I still find appealing enough to make me revisit it probably once every two years. ( I also have a nice-looking model of the Rocketeer as part of my collection ) Maybe it was the direction and the good acting. The production design. That rocket of course! ( and well, Connelly’s…)

@wildpotato Those movies are pure fun. Wish John Candy was still around. And I still have zero inkling why Emilio Estevez does not act in movies anymore.

Remember the Titans, a joint effort from Bruckheimer/Disney.
Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion the Witch & the Wardrobe.
Mary Poppins.

@ucme “Cronicles of Narnia” yes, as far as propaganda films go, this one was quite pleasant.

@fremen_warrior Hey it’s Disney, I wouldn’t place so much weight on it.

The Pirates of the Caribbean movies.

I love the Pirates of the Caribbean films. Even though there is animation in it can I say Bedknobs and Broomsticks? No knob jokes @ucme!!!

Mary Poppins (although it does have a couple of animated sequences in it, but it is a live action movie for the most part) The songs, the dances, the sets, the story, I just loved all of it.

One of my favorite scenes is the Step in Time sequence with the chimney sweeps.
