The reason behind things is what to bear in mind!

That “Pistorius” is a spell Harry Potter would say to make an enemy’s legs fall off.

Conflict is sometimes necessary to promote growth and dialog. We can’t always agree.

We’re tiny, insignificant pieces of dust floating on a slightly-larger piece of dust in a universe that doesn’t appear to be designed for us. We’re here for a blink of an eye, and we’re lucky to have this chance. Everyone you see today will soon die.

Keep in mind that one’s actions will have unforeseen effects. So move and act from a good place in one’s heart, and let the echoes of your action be dulcet tones, not a clanging sound.

If most American’s did as little work as Congress would we have a job? I think we should all think about this. I think we have an incompetent Congress. I think two corrupt parties run the US and we have little true leadership.
We should be thinking about how to improve the quality of life for the majority of American citizens. We should accept that we can not provide for the whole world at the expense of American’s.

“Far out in the uncharted backwaters of the unfashionable end of the western spiral arm of the Galaxy lies a small, unregarded yellow sun. Orbiting this at a distance of roughly ninety-eight million miles is an utterly insignificant little blue-green planet whose ape-descended life forms are so amazingly primitive that they still think digital watches are a pretty neat idea.”

Thanks, Douglas. We all miss you.

Correlation is not causation.
Purchases don’t make you a person.
The world is bigger than your mind, and people have had experiences that are nowhere near yours.
The earth is not limitless.
Do you realize???

I love how there were two trends visible immediately:
A) we’re basically insignificant (very eloquently put by @tom_g )
B) what we do matters, probably even in ways we can’t predict.
Thanks for all those answers! I’m trying to find one for myself, so your opinions are helpful.

That people are sensitive and one single bad remark at someone else might influence them far more than you can imagine.

We have only one world and we’re all human beings – let’s be nice to mother earth and each other.

No one knows anything for certain, so relax a little.

That is very accurate. Living in the US we hear what the media wants us to. We hear two extreme slanted views. Finding out the facts requires hard work.

American democracy has become a farce. The “Patriot Act”, and Homeland Security have sucked the last bit of democracy from this country. Police are militarized, the president has a hit list for people to be bombed by drones, and one major political party is espousing theocratic fascism while the other party seem afraid of upsetting the fascists.

Citizens need to stop allowing congress more than two terms. Congress was not meant to be a career and we need to stop providing pensions for people that spent their entire career in congress.

KNOWITALL's avatar

@Ron_C LOL, spot on. We should all vote for Snoopy. :)

On a universal scale. We’re worthless space dust that’ll disappear quicker than we arrived.

People should use this information to forget about trivial grudges and petty arguments that they think causes them strife.

The thing people prefer not to remember is that some people hate all people not exactly like them. These people would like to kill all of us who live in America. This is reality even if ,some of you deny it. They are called terrorist.
Our representatives do not represent the majority of American’s but we still are much better than other nations.

@philosopher That ‘fact’ or ‘philosophy’ is part of the fear-mongering perpetuating myths in America, not saying it’s not true, but that is causes fear, and people acting out of fear seldom act smartly.

Many people now “hate” Obama for reducing military budgets, which leaves us susceptible to attack from others with an untrained military. The NRA is on blast from everyone for fear-mongering about Obama “taking guns” away from us.

I’m a Republican, but I’m a little tired of people trying to induce fear in my and my fellow Republicans. If it’s going to happen, it’s going to happen. The fact is, our economy and debt is out of control, until the government resolves those issues, so we can all live the American Dream, I’m out. And I may not vote Republican next election either.

philosopher's avatar

@KNOWITALL
I am not going to debate.
My statement is based on fact. Only naive fools debate it. Being realistic is not fear mongering.
I am disgusted by both parties and all extremist.
I am an Independent.
I agree with somethings Republicans want and somethings the Democrats support. I make decisions based on documentation not rhetoric crap.
I would like to throw both parties out of Congress. They support lobbyist, Monsanto, drug companies, foreign interest, big business, the wealthiest Americans, their own best interest and not the majority of American’s.

KNOWITALL's avatar

@philosopher Agree completely actually. Both parties suck. I kind of liked Ron Paul though, crazy thing that he is.

To, as much as possible, treat others the way you’d like to be treated.

That everyone deserves to be able to travel in safety on the highways and no lateness for an “important” appointment, bad day, bad mood or frustration because someone is traveling slower than you’d like them to makes it okay to actually endanger their life, your life or the lives of everyone in the vicinity with aggressiveness or recklessness. (said the long distance commuter)

Aesthetic_Mess's avatar

@philosopher It’s certainly not limited to the media though. You must take into consideration everything you hear from anyone, even your friends and family (the sources of most opinions you hear)

Things have not always been the way you have been conditioned into accepting as normal, and
People have complained about how things “aren’t like the good old days” since the time of the Roman Empire, and likely before.

@Aesthetic_Mess
The search for the documentation is difficult . I get Infomation from any sources. The ones from political people I know are always BS. It is clear to me that they have No objectivity. Despite that they are related by marriage I No longer listen to them. They seem to live in a pseudo world. A world of fantasy where only the wealthiest exist.

@bookish1 Very true. I was just re-watching this video yesterday about shifting baselines and accepting things as normal which aren’t.

I wish in general people were more conscious of what we really are—highly evolved primates that at this point are SO highly evolved we have begun to go backwards, though it might seem we’re still moving forward. We are the only living thing that destroys it’s habitat and, better yet, has the ability to REALIZE this and keeps on doing it. It blows my mind every day. I wish people would appreciate the simple things in life like the moon at night, a good clear sky, the general grand scheme of things (here comes religion to shit on everyones mind yet again though), the people they love, their dog, etc. Instead we are so focused on I NEED A PHONE THAT LETS ME TALK ON IT WHILE I BROWSE THE INTERNET!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! And I will talk on it while I run over a bicyclist.
