Is hearing things(that arent really there) when waking up, or being woken up by them normal?

Two days ago I was awaken from a lucid dream by the sound of my mother yelling her head off. i was pretty scared and even hesitated to go see if the sound had actually been my mother or just in my head. Eventually, after failing to find a weapon to knock out my mother with in case she was posessed, i walked out of my room to check on her. she was just having brakefast. i asked if she had yelled, sneezed or maybe coughed loudly, and she just looked at me like I was crazy.
the next day, or more like the middle of last night, i woke up to the sound of teeth being brushed. i was sleeping in her bed because my sister and her family were in my room. i continued to hear the sound even while asking if she was brushing her teeth. she laughed and told me she wasnt brushing her teeth in bed. the sound didnt stop so i figured she might be scratching her head or something that sounded similar to teeth being brushe so i asked and again she denied. and finally after that the sound stoped.

Now im concerned for my health. i admit to being a bit of a hypochondriac, but as i was googleing auditory hallucinations i came across a lot of things that sounded like what i was experiencing. One of them being, encephalitis, wikipedia descrives the symptoms as those of a cold along with increased cranial pressure, wich i just took some pain killers for.

Should i get medical help or does this kinda thing sound familiar to anyone. i dont want to over react and get my mother all worked up for no reason, so some feedback would be graet

Just dreams . . . ~ ~ Take two aspirin and call me in the morning. JK

Are you using any kind of sleeping aid? Some will cause a awakened dream state.

Happens – your mind sometimes gets bored and plays tricks on you, I got woken up once because I heard someone call my name. I live alone, lol.

It’s normal – caused by being in that state between REM sleep and full wakefulness. It’s the same state in which some people experience sleep-paralysis. If your headache is stress-related that might trigger it.

I believe you are experiencing hypnogogia and I have experienced that before, it can include auditory hallucinations. No need to worry. But if you are worried go to the doctor. Google could probably tell you that you may need a possible amputation for a papercut :/

I have gone through times when I hear things like that for a few weeks, and then it goes away for years, then comes back. I suggest protecting your ears well for the next few months. No loud constant noises. Don’t blast music, wear ear plugs in movie theatres and bars. I think it can be either your ears are on overdrive or something in the brain. Certainly it sounds like some of it might be while you are in a dream state. But, it sounds like it is happening when you are awake as well. If you start hearing voices instructing you or carryng on a conversation with you then definitely get evaluated. But, a voice screaming out, or random noises, especially as you are falling a sleep or waking up is probably nothing.
