Can I use a United Airlines Voucher with one of their affiliates?

Asked by LeavesNoTrace (5674points) March 11th, 2013

I have a United voucher for $350 that I want to give to my friend to book a flight to see me in Ecuador. United’s affiliate, Copa airlines has some very affordable flights. Could she use this voucher with one of their affiliate airlines? They even have the same logo with the blue globe so they’re basically in bed together. ;)

The best course would be to call United Airlines and ask them. Have the voucher available when you call. Depending on how the voucher is written, you may or may not be allowed to transfer the voucher.

@WestRiverrat It’s transferable :)

That answers one of three questions.

Is it valid for International flights?
Is it valid for just United Airlines or can it transfer to its foreign affiliates?

We actually just found that she can fly United from her city to Quito so that takes care of 2 of 3. But what you said now raises the question of is it valid for international…

I have never heard of having a problem using that sort of voucher internationally. But, always best to check with the airline. The voucher is like cash basically. However, I rarely fly United, so they might have different rules.

Ask (the airline) and it shall be answered!
