Why do I keep seeing Ebay purchases on my pages? Who cares?

Asked by Aster (20023points) March 13th, 2013

I bought a purse on Ebay. Now, on many of my pages, there are photos of it and photos of other purses of the same designer. What does this accomplish? Who cares ? Who is doing this? If I simply look at something on Overstock there it is on my pages for weeks. Just from looking. I feel like I’m in a goldfish bowl. Who is doing this and for what purpose?

Which pages are you talking about?

In general, social data miners like FB and Google are crawling all over your searches to sell more advertising.

It a “COOKIES” thing.
Anytime you visit a website it a gives you a cookie that is pulling info from similar sites or the same site.

@Tropical_Willie ok. But this is precise information from a website from which I purchased something or just clicked on something. For instance, if I go to Overstock and click on a rug I will see the exact rug on future pages. Which pages? I don’t recall. lol And who actually gains something from doing that?

It is advertising, Google and other sites connect to you and remember “the click”. This is the cookie with specific info, your browser carries “the click” and displays it on any page that has an advertising spot on it. If you open a page from your local newspaper website, there maybe a spot on the page for your cookie to show your “Purse”.
