Is my family the only one who has experienced nightmare situations with aides provided for senior family member? Please let me know. Thank you!

Aides have been abusive to me, not the proper level of hygiene for our older family member, etc. We cannot be alone in this.

I have not had a personel experience with this, but..I can say that I worked briefly in an assisted living home some years ago and I loved the 6 elderly lady residents. The thing is that the industry is low paying and does tend to attract more than its fair share of rather riff raffy types.
One of the reasons, inspite of my enjoyment of helping the elderly that I never wished to make a career of it. The small facility I worked for did not require extreme medical care, mostly just assistance with daily needs, someone to standby during shower time, meal preparation and keeping the residents rooms clean.
I was a bright spot in these womens day, I made wonderful home made soups and pampered them and we had ice cream parties on the porch and it made me very happy to see them cheerful and happy. However…after about 6 months with several other aides that had issues ranging from drinking problems to drug use, frequent calling in right before their shifts and being stuck on double duty, along with a general lack of intelligence and competitive workplace behaviors I quit.

Not to sound arrogant but I was the classiest person in the place and I just couldn’t handle the low level of quality and lack of integrity with my co-workers.
Sad but true, the industry attracts a lot of, for lack of a kinder word…low life caregivers. :-(
