How does the Catholic church keep track its followers, and how do I dissociate myself from it?

Asked by desiree333 (3150 points ) 2 months ago

READ ME:
I was baptized as a baby, and am assuming that the Catholic Church uses baptism records to declare their billion followers. I have been atheist for most of my life, and did not choose to be raised in the Catholic faith. Is there a way to dissociate myself from being counted as a current follower if it is done through baptism records?

Just don’t stress about it and don’t be a follower. Nothing you can do about their records.

The church does not keep track of you. Outside of the parish where you wee baptized, there is no other record of your being a Catholic.

Estimates of the size of the Church are just that, estimates. They may be off by 5 or 10 million or so, give or take.

You have already disassociated from the Church. Nobody is looking for you.

Well, afaik when you are catholic if you have been baptised when you get married regardless of practicing catholicism you need to show proof of your baptism. So I would’nt be so quick to throw away your baptismal papers regardless of practicing or not.

So if you read through this, apparently they do keep records.

Anyway, if you want to disassociate yourself with them you just don’t go to their church any longer and you will no longer be associated with them. No one is going to come and look for you. I agree with @zenvelo on that part.

If you have an iPhone, apparently there’s an app for that.
