What are your stereotypes of scene kids?

Asked by genjgal (1011points) March 28th, 2013

Ok, never will I ever be a full fledged “scene kid”.
But, I’ve always loved scene/emo hair styles.
I will be content no matter what style my head is wearing. It’s not really worth it to me to have a certain hair cut, if the stereotypes that accompany it will do me more harm than good.

So, what are your stereotypes of people with scene hair cuts?

I feel like people stereotype them as people who are emo and depressed and listen to punk, rock, or screamo music.

I know my age is showing but what the hell is a scene kid???

They wear skinny jeans and have nail polish in the center of their nails only. None at the edges. And pale?

Seems as if everyone is wearing skinny jeans regardless of how they look in them but I never noticed the finger nail polish thing. I will have to pay more attention to that. No one is pale here, either sun burned or wind burned!

@rooeytoo Scene kids.

I don’t really have an opinion about scene kids. I love the hair, but could never pull it off. If you can, and you like it, go for it.

Wait, people still listen to emo? I thought that was just a mistake people made in the 2000s…
Purchasing an exclusionary social identity is nothing new. The style just changes with each new cohort of teenagers.

I hate stereotypes. We all try to fit into this group of people, while calling ourselves individuals. We say that we’re different, then we dress like everyone else who’s trying to be different.

@AshLeigh: I’m my own person and I dress to stand out in a crowd: I wear bright colors, solid color tee shirts, plain jeans, and modest clothes in general.

Well I guess I fit into that music stereotype. I listen to just about anything though.

Nail polish at just the center of the nail? No…?

@livelaughlove21 – gotcha, thank you. They are the kids that gather in the center of the footpath so no one else can get past. And their outfits beg you to look again and then they get pissed and abuse you if you do!

I don’t get it but probably the older generation said that about me and my peer group when we were kids. We did stand aside though and allow others to pass.

Not really a stereotype, my impression is that for the most part scene kids are young adults trying on a contemporary style to see if it fits them. Every generation has its “scene kids”. Some will grow up and grow out of it. Some will have goofy colored streaks in their hair well into their forties.

Well the nail polish in the center results from wear and maybe nervous picking after. But I always see this because I use the hands as a way to size up people You can tell alot by that alone.

how many here just looked down at their hands now?
