Do you have any personal experience with weight gain while taking antidepressants?

If so, could you tell me specifically which ones had what effect? Thanks!

I put on weight with Zoloft and Wellbutrin. I did not gain weight with Prozac.

@SuperMouse Thanks. Another friend mentioned Prozac as not causing weight gain.

I gained about 10lbs on Lexapro (rapidly) and I gained weight on Zoloft, but I don’t remember how much anymore. I lost the weight easily when I went off of the Zoloft, not so easily with Lexapro.

The medications I tried, Zoloft, Prozac and Wellbutrin, all listed loss of appetite as side effects (as I recall), and I was hopeful that would happen – but no. I didn’t experience noticeable weight changes that I would attribute to any of those medications, although I gained weight when depressed as an emotional eater.

No weight gain in my experience (celexa).

I took Prozac once for about a month and it was just awful for me. It made me feel out of control I hated it. The doctor had prescribed Prozac and Klonopon together because he said initially a lot of people get anxiety. I definitely was edgy even with the benso’s and I hated taking all those drugs. One side effect was the Prozac diminished my appetite even with taking the Klonopin (which I did not take as regularly as prescribed) which usually will encourage appetite.

I have a friend who took Prozac and she said she felt the most normal in years. She lost 80 pounds taking that drug.

I know people who take Effexor and Welbutron who don’t complain about weight changes.

There are different things that can cause you to gain weight. Mediication is one of them. That’s why it is always best to incorporate a yoga routine in your life. Drinking lots of water flushes out toxins, as well.
