Do you put salt on fruit?

I have on green apples, cantaloupe, and watermelon.

Avocado is great with a bit of salt on it. Same with tomatoes and many other fruits, for instance, pumpkin.

Every once in a while I like it on apples and watermelon. Usually I eat them (and all other fruits) plain, though.

Only on Tomatoes.
Anything else is blasphemy and frankly downright repulsive. The though alone of putting salt on an apple makes me shudder.

I used to try it once in a while, especially salt on watermelon. But I really don’t need the extra sodium, and the natural flavor of the fruit is better anyway, so I don’t anymore.

I would never put salt on a tomato, because Richard Nixon used to put salt and pepper on the tomato and cottage cheese he had for lunch every day. (Yes,I even politicized this question!).

If we allow vegetables to be fruit too (@ragingloli Only on Tomatoes.) then yes.
I put salt on cucumber slices.

@rebbel Pffft. Who would recognize the authority of the US Supreme Court in determining a scientific classification? Anyway, neither of us is even American. :)

Tomatoes, avocado(I have a hard time eating this plain without a bit of salt) and sometimes on watermelon.

Botanically speaking, tomatoes are a fruit, but are often classified as a vegetable.

My dad always put salt on watermelon and cantaloupe. I’ve never tried it even though I know that salt will help to bring out the sweet flavor, and I’ve had it work in baking. Of course, I’ve been known to put sugar on grapefruit and a lot of people have kvetched at me about that.

No! It sounds like a horrible thing to do.
I put a small sprinkle of sugar on strawberries.
Everything else is eaten as it is.

tomatoes, radishes and celery. I know last two are vegtables. But they’re all better with salt.

I love a little salt on Watermelon and sometimes a very sweet apple.

Oh, and @ragingloli, about your comment that putting salt on anything but tomatoes is “replusive,” I respectfully disagree. How people eat is a matter of, er, personal taste based on, among other factors, where they grew up and what influences they had as a children. My parents loved salt on watermelon and apples and so do I. You should try it before judging it.

And btw, when I was kid, tomatoes were so flavorable you didn’t need to put salt on ‘em. Nowadays, most of them—at least where I live—barely have any taste at all.

Only tomatoes, which are technically fruit, but I consider a vegetable.

I like to put salt on lemons, grapes, green apples, mangoes (also w/ pepper sauce), sometimes on sliced oranges

No, no, no. I hate being asked if I want salt on my watermelon or mango or whatever. No, I like my fruit sweet, thanks. As if I need more sodium in my diet anyhow.

I’ve enjoyed salt on melons but don’t make it a habit.

@Pachyderm_In_The_Room I live in NJ, imo we have some of the best tomatoes there are. I eat them straight off the vine but mannnnn throw a lil salt and balsamic on them YUM!

@uberbatman, I’m sooo jealous! My dad was from NY and adored tomatoes; hence, my own love for them. A bit of salt and balsamic, plus a few some slices of mozzarella to make a lovely Caprese salad. Mmmmmm.

Balsamic vinegar + sliced tomatoes + a little bocconcini… sheer delight.

I agree with the balsamic and tomato. @Adirondackwannabe, you have to try it. Marriage made in heaven. @uberbatman my father used to grow his own tomatoes and they were the most beautiful fruit ever. A sprinkle of salt and one of those beauties and you needed nothing else. Yum!

I have never put salt on melon, apples or oranges.

@Bellatrix I am going to try it. I grow Sweet 100 tomatoes, they’re amazing. That would make an amazing salad.

I never put salt on any fruit.
My sister gets a stomach ache if she eats watermelon plain, but if she puts a little salt on it, she’s fine. I’ve always thought this is a bit strange, but it works!

Oh, I just remembered…salt and lemons/limes is excellent when paired with copious amounts of alcohol. Margaritas, of course, but beer with salt and lemon is so good in the summer!

I enjoy a light sprinkle of salt on pomegranate seeds. I leave other fruits as is.

Finally had my beer with lemon and salt last night. It was so damn good. Like a tiny taste of summer.
