Are you curious about real hula?

Asked by Hawaii_Jake (37334points) April 5th, 2013

Watch the world’s most prestigious hula competition, the 50th Annual Merrie Monarch Festival, here

Tonight is hula kahiko (traditional hula).
Saturday night is hula ‘auana (modern hula).

The festival is named in honor of Hawai`i’s last king who was called the merrie monarch, King David Kalakaua.

Yes! Absolutely. I love so many, most, if not all, forms of traditional and folk dance. I remeber my friend’s mom teaching us to do hula when I was about 6 years old. She knew something about it somehow. I was entranced immediately. I will definitely check the link out. Thank you, @Hawaii_Jake

Here’s an example of the ancient style of hula. It’s very worshipful and entrancing.
