How to recover a deleted video?

Asked by icehky06 (896points) April 20th, 2013 from iPhone

On Thursday night I recorded everything that happened in Watertown, MA. Yes, I recorded all the gunfire and explosions. I accidentally deleted the video on my iPhone and I need that video. It’s so important to me. It’s 10 minutes long documenting what happened during this chaos. Please, help me.

iPhone doesn’t have a conventional file system, so it’s not quite as simple as it would be with a real smartphone. There are special programs like Dr Fone (not free) and Ease US, but the fact that you didn’t already know that and are asking this question tells me that you probably would not be able to use those.

It’s possible that the Geniuses at the Apple Bar may have some secret trick to get into their proprietary stuff and the willingness to help you out, but no guarantees. If you synced it with iTunes already though, all bets are off.

In the meantime, don’t use the phone or it will assume that the storage are where the video was is blank and write over it. Set the phone to airplane mode. And do not sync it to iTunes!

Unless….

If you synced it to iTunes before you accidentally deleted it from your device, then a copy of the video is still on your computer.

Doesn’t the iPhone have anything like a recycle or trash bin, where unwanted items await permanent deletion?

@Brian1946 Nope. That is part of what I meant by, ”...doesn’t have a conventional file system…”. Unlike an Android, you cannot plug it into your computer and navigate it like a hard drive, nor can you undelete stuff the same way. Actually, there are ways to do it, but all of them require that the iPhone be jailbroken. Not only was that ability intentionally omitted, it was actually blocked (under orders by Steve Jobs), thus the requirement for jailbreaking to do anything useful most of the time. It’s not a bug; it’s a feature.

I did find something that may get around that; the iPhone has been around long enough for there to be ways to get around the restrictions Apple placed on it. There is a slim chance that iFunBox might work… assuming the file has not already been overwritten.

Hi There!

I don’t think it will be that easy to recover the deleted video from iPhone. I don’t even think their is any file which you will have where your deleted items are saved. I think you need to upload the video once again in order to view it.
