Can you answer a question about having multiple Gmail accounts?

Asked by Hawaii_Jake (37345points) May 17th, 2013

If I were to have more than one email account with Gmail, is it necessary for me to have the same user name?

In other words, with “exampleaccount1@gmail.com”, my user name may appear as Hawaii Jake. With “exampleaccount2@gmail.com”, could my user name be John Q. Public?

Would there be any bleeding between the two accounts that might cause servers to get confused?

I already have one account for everyday use, but I want an anonymous one to use for various purposes. You can get your mind out of the gutter.

I have, like, 20 gmail accounts. They don’t get confused.

@Seek_Kolinahr Do you have multiple user names? I understand it’s possible to have an infinite number of accounts.

Yes, each one is treated separately. In one I’m Alyson M., in another I’m Seek Kolinahr. No bleeding.

@Hawaii_Jake I was interested in the results as I don’t have a gmail account, but I’m really curious as to how you knew my mind was in the gutter?

@Adirondackwannabe I knew you were in the gutter, because I could spy you slithering the same direction I was slithering. ;-)

@Seek_Kolinahr Thank you.
@Adirondackwannabe I recommend Gmail to everyone. I’ve used it since 2004 for work and since 2007 for personal use.

I have multiple Gmail accounts also with different user names…they never bleed into each other….

I have several, all forwarded to one. There has been some bleeding. When I’m in the main account and compose an email, I have a choice of which address to send it from. If I choose a different address, it will show that it was sent from “Real Name” by way of “Augustlan”. I can’t ever see this from my end, but at least one of my recipients can.
