You are always there when we need an answer to a food related question or a special recipe for an occasion. You have made your own niche at Fluther and we are now handing the 20K kitchen over to you :D

(Yay! Great food coming our way folks :D)

I like you Kardamom, not least because your name serves as a timely reminder to buy my mum a card on mother’s day, not that I need reminding, but the opportunity for a gag was there so I took it…congrats spice girl ;-}

Hooray Kardamom! You are a beloved jelly here and you contribute so much with your thoughtful and well-researched answers.

I really wanted to throw your party myself but I just woke up to stumble upon it… Raiding my fridge right now to bring you some of the excellent vegan “chicken” tacos I made, along with mangoes fresh from my tree. That’s just a snack though, in case you get hungry while I’m cooking… Appetizer is lemon rice with mango pickle
and plenty of delicious fried things.

Hope you’ve saved some room because the main dish is paneer tikka masala with rotis.

Desserts include coconut sheera, pista kulfi and no party is complete without gulab jamun!

It’s ok, we’ll do the dishes tonight!

Once you’re done partying, proceed up to your bedroom on the second floor because guess who is going to show up to read a bedtime story for you ;)

Berserker's avatar

Congratulations Kardamom!! Man I remember way back when you got here, and I didn’t know what cardamom was, and I first read your username as kar demon. Lol. If I think back, I have lots of good times I remember where you were making Fluther kick some serious ass, and it delights me to think that, like in two years from now, I’ll have more Kardamom related moments to think about that are gonna be cool.
Congratulations to a wonderful squishy. If your cooking is as awesome as your answers are, then I have a crush on you and I’m hungry.

Well done and cheers, homie. :D

Silly me. I was surprised to read 20K because I thought you’d reached that long ago, you are such a Fluther staple.

I thought sure there was a typo and it was 30K. Oh we’ll, numbers have just never been my things so congrats to you (and I’m sure your 30K will be just around the corner)

Happy 20K ! !

Oh keeper of 20,000 culinary delights, lovely and wise @Kardamon, how richly you deserve a level up in the mansion. Thanks for all you give to Fluther, and all you’re willing to take from the rest of us. :-)

Congratulations on a well-deserved recognition of your contribution to the community.

Kardamom's avatar

You guys are so fantastic! I’ve been out most of today (even though I managed to get in a few words about the beautiful Zachary Quinto from Star Trek Into Darkness) and will be gone all day tomorrow. I want to thank all of you personally (especially @bookish1 for planning my feast) so please stay tuned until I am able to sit down and talk to you guys, one on one.

I am humbled in all of your presences’ (Please, Jeruba and Gail, please tell me where the apostrophe was supposed to go???)

Sometimes the needs of the many outweigh the needs of the few. And in some cases the needs of the few, outweigh the needs of the many.

And in some cases the needs of Fluther outweigh the needs of @Kardamom!

By the way, if anyone is interested the needs of @Kardamom are Alan Rickman, Fran Drescher, Leonard Nimoy/Zachary Quinto (because they are now joined at the proverbial hottie hip) Patrick Stewart, Benedict Cumberbatch/Johnny Lee Miller (who are different versions of the same hot Sherlock Holmes) and food, vegetarian food!

I never thought I would end up in this place, on the 2nd floor of the mansion, but ding dong it, I’m here! And in the words of the Jefferson’s theme song, “I’m Movin’ on Up!”!

And last, but not least (at least not for today) I want to thank @ZEPHYRA for throwing such a wonderful party for me. And to everyone, I not only don’t mind cooking, I relish the idea!!!

And in the words of our crappy ex governor, “I will be back!” But since I don’t want to leave such a nasty after taste, I shall refer to my favorite Vulcan, “Live Long and Prosper.”

FutureMemory's avatar

Congrats Karda’s mom :D

bookish1's avatar

@Kardamom: I didn’t realize you fancied Jonny Lee Miller
too. He’s half the reason I keep rewatching Hackers
and Trainspotting. Woof.

CONGRATS!!!!!!!!!! Love you in all my best cooking!

Kardamom's avatar

@Hawaii_Jake Mahalo Nui Loa. I hope you finally got to go on that romantic date

@cookieman Wow! That felt nice, now you got me thinking about a recipe for Bear Claws! I love those!

@Bellatrix It was kind of a lucky accident that I ended up on Fluther in the first place, I was on a cooking site and they asked some of us if we’d like to answer some food related questions, then I was directed to Fluther and I’ve been here ever since. I’m glad I have a special niche that people seem to like. You guys are always welcome to hang out in my niche. God, that didn’t come out right!!! But you know what I mean : )

@chyna You, dearest, are one of my behind the scenes go to girls for when I think I’m seeing or reading something fishy and I desperately need a second opinion. Thanks for all of your advice and hand holding.

@whitenoise Thank you! I actually had to look up gefeliciteered to figure out that it means congratulations, although when I first saw it, I thought it had something to do with gefilte fish, ha ha : ) That would be rather unusual to be congratulated with a gefilte fish.

@ucme Cool, I get to be a Spicegirl. Woot! I love your British-isms and that you are willing to explain some British things to me, like where certain accents are from and what certain types of British foods are like, such as spotted dick.

@syz Thank you! And thank you for introducing me and the rest of the gang to the word entomophile. Love me some ladybugs, and praying mantis bugs are really cool looking. Did you ever end up making the fried green tomatoes? I’m craving those right now! I convinced my friend to plant a tomatillo plant when I was helping her to pick out her spring tomato plants. Can’t wait to taste them.

@9doomedtodie Thank you : ) Did you know that I actually don’t have any kids? Ha Ha. I found out that a few other Jellies also thought I was a Mom because of my avatar name, but it’s really just a take on the spice cardamom which is found mostly in Indian and Scandanavian food. Although in some ways I do often feel like a Mom on Fluther, especially with the high school and college relationship questions. I so want to save people from some of the stupid/painful mistakes that I made when I was younger.

@thorninmud Ahhh shucks : ) I went to a specialty food store not long ago that a bunch of different salts that you could sample. I really had no idea how different they all were. I liked the pink salt. They all just looked so nifty sitting in the jars, almost too pretty to use. Thanks for being the voice of reason and logic on Fluther (almost Spock-like, sorry I’m a little obsessed what with just having seen Star Trek Into Darkness).

@rooeytoo I would say that I’m a much better finder/collector of recipes than I am at actual cooking. You’d be surprised. My philosophy when it comes to cooking is simplicity. I run screaming away from recipes that give even the slightest hint of adding the paddle attachment to an upright mixer (which I don’t own) or putting something under the broiler. Yikes! That is why I still have yet to even attempt a Mole Recipe

@SuperMouse You, my dear friend, have been so helpful and kind to me and all the other Jellies. Some of the Q’s we’ve been on together, were almost like Star Trek away team missions. Together we’ve seen the good, the bad, the ugly and the awesome! I had so much fun helping you pick out your Mother of the Groom outfit.

@LuckyGuy You, sir, are one of my go-to fellows when I need some tricky and thoughtful advice to give to one of the young uns. I think people on Fluther respect your advice (I sure know I do) and sometimes it’s nice to get a male persepective. I thank you so much for all that you have done for me : ) If I was the President, you would be one of my trusted advisors.

@zenvelo Hee Hee you said recipe for success I love that! Now let’s bust out the non-alcoholic wine and get to cooking!

@Adirondackwannabe Oh God, I’m having one of those Wizard of Oz moments. If you ever left Fluther, I know I’d miss you most of all. I wouldn’t be able to do what I do here, on Fluther, without your help.

@filmfann To Sir with Lurve, The Movie! What a great idea!

@janbb That was so sweet of you to say mazel tov because you know that instantly makes me think of Fran Dreshcer : ) Some day, I would like the book in the penguin’s hand to be titled: Kardamom’s Favorite Fluther Recipes that even a Penguin would Love : )

@picante Every time I see your name, I think of picante sauce and spicy Mexican food and my mouth starts to water. I may have to come up with an original recipe just for you. Thank you for supporting my culinary interests : )

@Mariah at your young age, you have given me wisdom (and hope for the future) that is way beyond my years. I can’t wait to see how you will be when you are my age! You have been through more in your short years than most of us will ever realize in a lifetime and you just shrug it off as every day life. That is what I love about you, your confidence and your resilience. Can’t wait to see the robots that you ultimately end up making. Can you make me a Zachary Quinto robot? Please ; – P

@bkcunningham Thank you! Lunch can and will be served at any time of the day or night, just like on the Fluther cruise ship!

@glacial Thank you! And thanks for helping me to channel Julia Child

@Tropical_Willie It’s so much better to be spicy than bitter or sour : ) Here’s a little bit of Tropical Spice just for you Willie : )

@Cupcake Thank you so much. I know that some people probably think I tend to be a little long winded, they’re right, but sometimes I’m just trying to present as many facts as I can, along with my own experiences when I think they can be of some use. Even though what I say may not be what the OP wants to hear, I feel that I need to say some things, and get some ideas in there, so that maybe I can help someone else who might be having a similar problem. I just hope that I haven’t bored you all to tears.

@marinelife Thank you so much! That means a lot coming from you. You are like one of the elder statespersons of Fluther : )

@Mama_Cakes Thank you sweet girl! You have the most beautiful speaking voice on Fluther and you ask such great questions, things that I am always interested in, from interior design, to Paul McCartney concerts (I hope you are going to get to see him) to questions about dogs, and neighbors checking out your lady parts. Does that dude still live there?

@Judi One of these days we will all have to get together and have a healthy recipe feast/exchange. We actually did this for one of my family potlucks and it turned out really great! One of my cousins made this Cilantro Lime Quinoa Salad that knocked my socks off!

@Leanne1986 My dear, you are one of the only Jellies who can truly appreciate my obsession relationship with Fran Drescher, partly due to the fact that Fran has that same kind of relationship towards Barbara Streisand : ) Aren’t girl crushes fun?

@Seaofclouds Thank you! And thank you for being one of our Mods and for helping to keep Fluther a fun and safe place. I would love to see all of you Mods dressed up like This

@Sunny2 Gracious, nothing to be jealous about. I just want to spread the joy of cooking and eating across the Fluthersphere!

@bookish1 My dear friend, what can I say? This is the most awesome feast of all time, I think I just came a little in my mouth (food-gasm?) And by the way, thanks for sending the professor up to my room. I just sat there on the bed while he yelled, “Silence!” Then I proceeded to bite off each and every one of the buttons on his cape, then… and then… and then This Guy walked in and that’s when I passed out. Hopefully by the time you are done with your schooling, you will have a full beard like This Guy Thanks for all of your ongoing support and for having so much in common with me. Who the heck else would know about green coconut chutney???

@WillWorkForChocolate I do like to think of myself as part of the Fluther pantry! Thank you for always making me think about chocolate and for making so many hilarious comments. I guess I may eventually have to bust out that Mole recipe, becuase as you know, it contains chocolate.

@Plucky Thank you! And thank you for just having that sweet little white dog as your avatar. I think I actually enjoy rubbing dog tummies even more than I love cooking. Consider your tummy rubbed : )

@tinyfaery Thank you! Now what can I fix you for dinner? How about a Little Snack?

@Aster Thank you! And what a lovely Blue Ribbon it is. Who made the cake? I hope it’s lemon!

@Lightlyseared Thank you! You know your avatar name always makes me think of These and that makes me both happy and hungry : )

@Symbeline Girlfriend! We have had some of the most intense/unusual/fantastic conversations about every topic under the sun (and some, like zombies, that are not even under the sun). I think it was you that conjered up the image of the Kardashians when you first read my avatar name. I laughed so hard when I read that, because I’m more of a Jody Foster/Meg Ryan looking gal, and my arse is as flat as a pancake. Did you ever find any actual cardamom? The scent alone practically makes my eyes roll up into my head, and the flavor, well let’s just say that if a flavor tasted like Alan Rickman, mixed with Johnny Lee Miller and Zachary Quinto, it would be kind like that. The first time I ever tasted it was in This Dish and I nearly had to excuse myself from the table.

@flutherother Thank you! Hee Hee, I love that you used a K.

@rosehips Thank you for giving me the night off. Now I can just sit back and let you all peel some grapes for me.

@Buttonstc There is a reason for why it took so long for me to reach 20K even though I’m on Fluther almost every day. I bet Auggie can tell you why. But I love being on Fluther and answering questions.

@Coloma My dear, kindred spirit. Whenever I go for a walk in the woods or see some geese honking at our local park (or take a dip in the hot tub) I think of you. I really related to you when it came to the fact that you had to end a couple of toxic relationships that you had with some friends. I had to do that too, and it was painful, yet at the same time, freeing. You are such a wonderful earth-mother and I try to be more like you. Keep being you, so I can keep trying to be like you : )

@YARNLADY You were one of my first friends on Fluther. I love your no nonsense, down to earth advice, and I love hearing about your family and your experiences. Of course, we all have you to thank for the awesome-ness that was Yarnpocalypse.

@newtscamander Thank you! I try to be thoughtful, and occasionally I try to throw in a little bit of levity. May I ask you a question? The beginning part of your name seems awfully familiar. Do I have the pleasure of being in the company of a Jelly that has transormed into a new Jelly?

@mangeons You know your Mom makes great kids! And of course you know exactly why I love your avatar name!!! I love reading your thoughtful responses, especially because they are coming from the mature voice of youth. Wish I could have been as confident and smart as you are when I was your age.

@augustlan What can I say to you? You have been so supportive and helpful to me, since the moment I arrived on Fluther. You have complimented me (behind the scenes in a way that made my heart swell) and I shall always be your eager and faithful servant. P.S. Thanks for sending those Brits to my room. I almost wet myself when they both agreed to say straaaaaawbries whilst they were feeding them to me.

@Pachyderm_In_The_Room Thanks Mr. Elephan Man! The view is pretty nice just about now, considering that there’s a bunch of British hotties turning down the covers for me and offering me Earl Grey tea ; – P

@AmWiser Thank you! This party is beginning to feel like Fluther Roll Call May 2013!

@Eggie Thank you! You know that I could just eat you up, right? Especially like This

@Bluefreedom Thank you! It’s been a long time since I’ve seen you around these waters!

@linguaphile Girl, you know you’re another one of my peeps. We have had some interesting conversations behind the scenes, trying to make sense out of what people are saying and doing. I’m so glad that you don’t mind me asking you what the hell heck you think some people are thinking. You always have a very good take on things. Thanks for being there for me : )

@ETpro OMG! That should be the name of the Fluther cookbook that I hope to write, 20,000 Culinary delights! You could write a book by the same title, only it would be the NSFW version, heh heh. Thanks for being a billion times smarter than me : )

@FutureMemory Thank you! There’s probably some little kid named Karda running around asking, “Who is that crazy foodie chick on Fluther who keeps saying she’s my Mom? She’s not my Mom! My Mom can’t even cook!”

@jca You are another one of my home girls, always there for me when I need to ask, “What the eff is that Jellyfish saying?” Plus I appreciate that you love the same Toys that I do.

@pleiades I loved that clip! When I was in elementary school, I used to watch the original Little Rascals after school. Spanky and Alfalfa were so cute when they were little, and Stymey and Buckwheat and Darla!

@zenzen Of course whenever I see your avatar picture, I can’t help but think about you know who. Especially this last week, since I just saw the new Star Trek movie Into Darkness. Give it a chance, this young fellow playing Spock is marvelous! I spent the better part of today looking up pictures of both Zachary Quinto and Leonard Nimoy, including This One which after viewing, I had to go and fan myself. Who knew what was lurking under that Starfleet uniform?

@bluiiznh Thank you to one of my favorite Jellies, you too, were one of the first Jellies that I became friends with when I first came to Fluther and I appreciate your male perspective, no bullshit, sweet and kind answers. Keep ‘em coming.

And of course, I want to thank @ZEPHYRA again for gathering all of you wonderful Jellies together to celebrate with me and to help me move all of my luggage and cooking equipment and spices upstairs : )

And since this is a party, make sure to put on your Party Hats

ETpro's avatar

@Kardamom Ha! You do know what I like to eat. :-)

Berserker's avatar

@Kardamom DAMN woman, you replied to everyone! That was awesome. :D
And yes, I found a place where they sell cardamom. There’s different types, like some still in the pods, and grounded one. I haven’t actually bought any yet, but at least I managed to find a place near me that has some. (it’s five minutes away from here, I was searching all around, LOL) They got all sorts of foods in there, some I don’t even know what it is. :/
I’m not a good cook, and I’m not entirely sure what to use it in. But apparently it’s pretty popular in Scandinavian dishes, so that’s automatically awesome. And yeah, it smells damn fine, so when I find something I can make that’s good with the spice, it’ll be cool.
Congrats again, and here’s to many more kick ass times for you on Fluther. :D I’d get Barnabas Collins to come say something…but he might sneak up in your new mansion room tonight. :D

wilma's avatar

Congratulations!

Although I have not really been here much in the last nine months due to circumstances beyond my ability to cope with. I still remember and fondly think of my jelly friends.
I miss you all.

OpryLeigh's avatar

@Kardamom Girl crushes are indeed fun :) I relate to you a lot because of how similar your love of Fran is to me love of Babs!

augustlan's avatar

@wilma We miss you, too!

Tropical_Willie's avatar

Thanks for the recipe @Kardamom . :0)

ETpro's avatar

@wilma Hope things get more sane for you soon.

Kardamom's avatar

@wilma Hello friend, I’ve been wondering where you’ve been. Please try to hang in there, and don’t leave us. We can all be a support system, no matter where you are.

I have a little Party Favor for you, my dear. I hope you like it : )

Hmmmm, is anyone else craving a Sapsicle right about now.

@Tropical_Willie. I hope are OK with tofu, that just looked so yummy.

@Symbeline, even if you don’t use the cardamom, you can just get some and use it for a scent. Sometimes I just take the lid off of the bottle and give it a deep whiff. Makes me go all tingly : ) Here is a recipe for a common Scandinavian-style Cardamom Cookie You can use the already ground cardamom in a jar for this recipe. That’s what I use, because as of yet, I don’t have a spice grinder (for the cardamom pods).

@Leanne1986, I’m so glad that you can relate. It’s hard to explain to people how a female could have a crush on a female without being bi or gay. Sometimes I can’t even explain it to myself, it’s just so much fun. How could anyone not have a crush on Her?

ZEPHYRA's avatar

What a party that was! Great buffet, thanks Kardamom!

Kardamom's avatar

@ZEPHYRA Yes it was! I especially enjoyed the nacho fountain!

Tropical_Willie's avatar

We don’t have any firm tofu in the refrigerator, but soon.

Kardamom's avatar

@Tropical_Willie I’m still waiting for someone to invent the Firm Tofu Man that I can just pop in the microwave oven whenever I need som lovin’ lunch ; – P

Tropical_Willie's avatar

I could make tofu “cheese” by hanging some tofu in cheese cloth overnight in the refrigerator. let it drain. But that’s not what you were talking about. ; > )

wilma's avatar

Aww… @Kardamom You remembered Johnny Depp for me! You are so special!
I never got a sapsicle this year, too much trauma in my life to enjoy the little things.
Someday, it’ll get better…it has to.
Thanks @augustlan and @ETpro , I’m trying to hang in there.

Eggie's avatar

Oh yeah…..well…I could eat you too you know so I guess we are at a stand off…...lol. Congratulations again…I am going to follow in your footsteps.

Kardamom's avatar

^^ Hmmm, interesting, an egg sprinkled with cardamom : )

PhiNotPi's avatar

Congratulations!

jca's avatar

@Symbeline: If you go into Indian restaurants, they have rice pudding made with cardamom. It’s really a unique flavor. You should try it, if you’re into rice pudding.

A Malaysian friend of mine told me don’t buy cardamom in supermarkets, buy it in Indian markets where it’s a lot cheaper. I have some on hand and when I make a cake or pie or other recipe where I throw spices in, I throw in a little cardamom, too.

Kardamom's avatar

Thanks @PhiNotPi you are too kind.

@jca OK, so now I’m craving Indian food, again!

Kardamom's avatar

@janbb Do you have a favorite Indian dish?

janbb's avatar

Easier to say what I don’t care for much – tandoori chicken. Also, not so crazy about the lamb dishes. Other than that, love most of it – chicken tikka masala, shrimp jalfrezi, vegetable korma, actually pretty much any vegetable curry dish. Love samosa, love garlic naan – you get the picture…

Kardamom's avatar

I think my favorite is aloo gobi (potato and cauliflower curry) and of course I also love palak paneer (spinach and cheese curry). Garlic naan and samosas are also yummy! And I could practically drink any chutney that comes down the pike, and don’t forget the mango lassi drink.

janbb's avatar

And tamarind sauce and pakoras and…....

bookish1's avatar

@janbb: You gotta try South Indian cuisine. It’s completely different. Sour, bitter, hot and savory instead of sweet and savory. Feast your eyes on this. Most of the stuff you listed is like…Mughal cuisine. I swear, there’s at least 40 different cuisines in India.

Bellatrix's avatar

I love aloo gobi too @Kardamom. I like Rogan Josh. Biriyani is probably my favourite – usually with chicken. I very much enjoy Dosa which I think (@bookish)? is South Indian food.

janbb's avatar

@bookish1 Don’t care for dosai and iddly but I am always willing to expand my horizions.

Kardamom's avatar

Is that a dosa in your pocket or are you just happy to see me? : P

bookish1's avatar

@janbb: At least you’ve given them a chance! Vada sambar is worth trying if you ever get the opportunity.

@Kardamom, No, it’s a drumstick.

mattbrowne's avatar

Herzlichen Glückwunsch zu deiner −253.15° C Traumvilla !

Kardamom's avatar

Thanks @mattbrowne I’m thinking of having some sauerkraut in your honor. Or maybe I’ll have some German chocolate cake (even though I know it’s not from Germany).
